Sky Bet Championship 2021-22 – Side Markets Tips and Betting Preview

We have had a look at the title picture and the top goalscorer ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship season but before the division kicks off there is just enough of a chance to look at some of the other markets that have been priced up ahead of the campaign.

The other markets for us to take a look at include the relegation one, the top and bottom half finish ones and then the various location markets. We’ve had a look through them and we’ve come up with a couple more bets to finish off our ante-post portfolio.

Relegation

Obviously there are three relegation spots up for grabs this season. You would think Derby are going to need to go some to avoid one of them because they are an absolute mess both on the pitch and off it, particularly off it. They only stayed up on the final day last term but that looks like a one-year stay of execution and League One appears to await them unless Wayne Rooney can do something pretty incredible.

That leaves two places up for grabs and I fancy one of them will be filled by Hull City. The Tigers did well to win League One last season but they are one of a few sides under a transfer embargo and that is not ideal when you consider they have lost a couple of key defenders in Reece Burke and Jordy de Wijs, so in the early stages of the season Hull might leak a few goals. You never truly feel comfortable with their off the pitch situation either and they look no stronger than when they were relegated two seasons ago. If the embargo remains until January and they can’t strengthen this could be a long year for Grant McCann and his men.

Top Half Finish

My own team Luton Town finished in the top half last season and they have never not finished higher than the previous season under Nathan Jones. That is a record the Welshman is proud of because it signifies that his work on the training ground is working and that the time and effort that goes into their recruitment plans has paid off. I see no reason why in a weaker Championship, Luton can’t finish in the top half once again.

There are two sides in Barnsley and Reading for whom there are doubts over whether they can go again after such upheaval in the summer while Swansea could be hit and miss too. Luton look a progressive side. They have brought eight good signings into the club and didn’t lose anyone they weren’t prepared to. It might be that with a tricky opening five matches and players to gel that Luton begin slowly but when the final tallies are added up I expect them to be in the top half of the table once again.
