Another weekend of Sky Bet Championship football begins on Friday night when two fixtures take place over the course of an evening which sees the top two in action and looking to pull further clear of the chasing pack.
It is the leaders Burnley who get the TV treatment across the two matches but I am sure there will be plenty of updates of the other game throughout the night on an evening which feels like it could be very important. We’ll begin the preview with the TV game even though it is the later one to kick off.
Burnley vs West Bromwich Albion (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
The TV cameras head to Turf Moor on Friday night for the battle between the leaders Burnley and a West Bromwich Albion side who are cutting through the pack like a hot knife through butter and have the top two in their sights.
Burnley have been the class act in the Championship this season and already sit 16 points clear of third place, a gap they hope to extend to 19 here. They are ploughing a strong charge at the top but their underlying numbers are beginning to contort into something like the norm when you look closely into them. That said, they are a very good side who will always take a lot of beating. West Brom might just be the ones to do it though. They head in here off the back of a fine comeback win at Luton last week which was their ninth win in 10 outings in the league. They should take a lot of confidence at coming from 2-0 down at Luton which is a tough place to go. There are concerns over West Brom defensively though. Luton’s two goals came a week after non-league Chesterfield bagged three times against the Baggies and although they have kept six clean sheets in their last 10 there are signs that it was just a nice schedule which contributed to that. Burnley are in equally as good form but I always feel when teams are prepared to attack them they can get some joy. I see no reason why West Brom won’t do that so while I fancy the Baggies to get a result here, over 2.25 goals will do me nicely.

Sheffield United vs Hull City (19.45)
The match away from the TV spotlight sees second placed Sheffield United looking to keep hold of the coattails of Burnley at the top, but more importantly put more distance between themselves and third place, when they entertain Hull City at Bramall Lane.
Only Burnley have come away from home matches with more points than Sheffield United this season but Rotherham showed that underdogs can turn up and win there and Hull City will be looking to draw inspiration from that. To be fair to the Tigers, they are steadily going well under Liam Rosenior and although they sit at 16 in the table they are actually closer to the play-offs than the relegation zone in terms of points, such is the bonkers nature of this league. Hull have really found something under Rosenior and he is bringing fresh faces into the club which might make them harder to beat. I’m not crazy about taking Sheffield United on here but I’m not as hot on them as some sides are so I’m pretty happy to leave this one alone.
