Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Huddersfield vs Hull Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is one final match left in the Sky Bet Championship this weekend and it comes in the lunchtime kick off on Sunday as two Yorkshire sides meet when Huddersfield Town welcome Hull City to a John Smith’s Stadium for what could be a rugby league fixture as well as a football one.

These two teams have not made the start to the season that they would have wanted so there will be a real intent to win this and just ease the pressure on their league position, particularly with new eras for both either underway or soon to begin.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels with the build-up to the game beginning at 11.30am and kick off coming at 12 noon.

Huddersfield Town

It didn’t take long for Huddersfield Town to head off in a different direction after starting out the season under Danny Schofield. Their beginning to the campaign has been very ordinary so his services was dispensed with and Mark Fotheringham has taken over. You would have to say there hasn’t been an immediate improvement in the Terriers under their new boss and he will hope that changes here in his first home game in charge.

There was a positive in midweek in that they scored three goals in a draw with Luton but the Hatters scored two of those for them and Huddersfield were the beneficiaries of a dubious penalty as well. More of a concern for the new boss will be the fact that they have conceded three goals in both of his matches in charge. They coughed up 24 shots at Luton on Tuesday night and looked as open and weak at the back as you could imagine.

Hull City

Huddersfield aren’t the only ones who have dispensed with a manager. Hull City have sent Shota Arveladze packing but are yet to convince anyone to replace him so Andy Dawson continues to deputise in the position. He has picked up a win in his second match in charge, which is really the only one he can be judged on because his first game was on the day the Georgian was sacked so he would have had next to no time to prepare the team.

The Tigers beat Wigan Athletic in midweek which was a good win but there is just nothing to like about them defensively. I have no problem with teams who are good enough to play out from the back but nothing I’ve seen from Hull suggests to me that they can. The positive for Hull is that in Oscar Estupinan they have the leading scorer in the competition this season but he will need help if he is to push Hull up the table.

Team News

Huddersfield Town will be without David Kasumu after he was stupidly sent off at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night. Jonathan Hogg, Tino Anjorin, Matty Pearson and Tyreece Simpson will all miss Mark Fotheringham’s first home game.

Hull City could be missing a number of players for this match as well but Ryan Longman and Ryan Woods were both on the bench for the win over Wigan and could be in line for a return to the starting XI.

Betting

I find it hard to believe there won’t be goals in this game. The only reason there wouldn’t be is if a number of chances get missed because these two defences are not particularly great. I saw Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night and I’ve not seen a team defend as poorly at this level for a while and to be fair it wasn’t a great deal different when I watched Hull City against my team last Friday night either.

The position that these two find themselves in at present means there shouldn’t be any playing for draws or anything like that and both teams have sacked a manager to get the bounce that comes from it. Mark Fotheringham has opened up about his side being more attacking and expansive and with his defensive shield watching on after his midweek red card this would be a perfect opportunity to put that into action. I like over 2.5 goals at odds against.
