Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Hull City vs West Brom Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another important round of matches in the Sky Bet Championship get underway on Friday evening when Hull City take on West Bromwich Albion with the visitors looking to get back among the top six shake up at the MKM Stadium.

The Championship table is so condensed that there is a chance for both of these sides to move up a few places in the standings ahead of the remainder of the weekend which should hopefully make for a competitive contest.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels with the build-up starting at 7.30pm and kick off at the MKM Stadium coming at 8pm.

Hull City

This has been a bit of an up and down campaign for Hull City. It started in very indifferent fashion under Shota Arveladze. They actually came flying out of the blocks only to hit the sort of wall which cost the Georgian his job and then after taking an absolute age to appoint his successor, they looked like they could be outsiders to push on and make the play-offs under Liam Rosenior but they have hit another wall which might have put paid to those hopes.

Hull go into this game without a win in four outings and have only scored one goal in those matches so they will be eager to get their season back on track to try and eek one last push out of it. The positive for the Tigers is they are 11 points clear of the relegation zone so they have no concerns on that front so they can just give it a good go to try and find enough from within to push for the top six. The reality is they are staring at a mid-table finish.

West Brom

It has been a similar up and down season for West Brom as well. It started disastrously under Steve Bruce who was clearly out of his depth and when the Baggies hierarchy finally realised that they turned a corner very quickly once they had appointed Carlos Corberan to take charge. They went on a lengthy unbeaten run under the former Huddersfield Town boss but things have gone a little quiet recently and they need to get back on a run to get towards the top six.

One reason for the slowing down of the Baggies has been their recent results on the road. They have lost their last three away matches and haven’t really looked that impressive in any of them. They are going to need to pick up away from The Hawthorns again if they are to bridge the current six point gap between themselves and the top six and they could do with starting that here against a team who are presently out of form.

Team News

Hull City are currently undergoing a lengthy injury list with goalkeeper Matt Ingram, midfielders Ryan Woods and Jean Michael Seri and forward Aaron Connelly all out. Liam Rosenior is sweating on the fitness of Cyrus Christie for this match too.

West Brom have a pretty lengthy injury list of their own heading into this match. They will be without Brandon Thomas-Asante, Grady Diangana, Karlan Grant, Alex Palmer, Tom Rogic, Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley. That leaves Daryl Dike to lead the line.

Betting

These Friday night matches haven’t been easy to bet on in recent times and this one is no different to that. Hull City have hit a bit of a wall and have a mountain of injuries to contend with while West Brom have been on the box in their last three away outings and have looked very poor in the last two of them and have no shortage of injuries to contend with themselves. That keeps me away from betting on the outcome and I’ll head to the player markets for a bet.

Jayson Molumby has been a threat in the attacking areas for West Brom in recent times and the 6/5 that he hits the target looks a little big against a Hull City side who are missing a couple of first choice midfielders and who might be able to be exposed through the centre of the park. Molumby will be in the box for set plays but he also gets forward from open play and has a decent shot on him. With West Brom light on attackers Molumby might be given the freedom to get into the box a little more and the 6/5 he finds the target looks a decent price to me.
