Big Matches
It is Derby Day in the Championship on Saturday and the TV cameras head to Deepdale for the lunchtime Lancashire derby between Preston North End and Blackpool with the away side in desperate need of the points to pull themselves out of trouble at the bottom of the table. The race for second place will also take shape on Saturday with Sheffield United looking to keep the chasing pack at bay. They head to Norwich City for a huge clash while closest pursuers Middlesbrough make the trip south to take on Huddersfield Town who will be fighting for the points to assist their need at the other end of the table.
Best of the Rest
Luton Town haven’t given up hope of getting themselves in the top two reckoning either. They kick off before the top two when they welcome arch-rivals Watford to what should be a sizzling Kenilworth Road atmosphere. The other derby over the course of the day sees Cardiff City hosting Swansea City while in the race for the play-offs Millwall in sixth head to one of the chasers for that spot in West Bromwich Albion. Blackburn Rovers begin the day in fifth place in the league and they will be up against Birmingham City at St Andrews while Coventry City take on an in form Stoke City side as they look to keep up their own top six hopes. At the other end of the table rock bottom Wigan Athletic host QPR.
Betting
The round of matches after any international break is always a tough one to bet on and so I’m not going to go too mad on Saturday but there is one bet which stands out a mile and that is for Bristol City to beat Reading. Bristol City aren’t playing for anything now but a young squad has a number of players who are looking to prove themselves for what they hope will be a promotion push next season and in front of their own fans they will still want to come away with a win.
The woes of Reading on the road have been well documented this season. They are an abomination on their travels and it appears things are about to get worse for the Royals as they are set to receive their delayed six-point deduction which will send them into a relegation battle. Reading struggle for goals on the road let alone points and while Bristol City haven’t found the required level of consistency this term they are usually pretty reliable at home. I like a home win here.
