Sky Bet Championship 2022-23 – Tuesday 30th August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

A busy week in the Sky Bet Championship continues on Tuesday evening when the first batch of matches in another midweek round of games take place with three more valuable points up for grabs for all involved.

This is one of the midweek rounds which has been moved from what would have been clashing with the World Cup so apart from the one game which is on TV in the UK, the only other way to watch these games without going to the stadium is to pay the home club for live streaming.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

Birmingham City v Norwich City

Burnley v Millwall

Cardiff City v Luton Town

Queens Park Rangers v Hull City

Sheffield United v Reading

Wigan Athletic v West Bromwich Albion

Watford v Middlesbrough (8pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Preview

The televised action sees two proposed promotion challengers battling it out on Tuesday evening when Watford look to find winning ways once again after three matches without a victory when they take on a Middlesbrough side who finally got off the mark themselves at the weekend and will look to back that up here. The other high profile clash on the evening session the top two in action when second placed Sheffield United host the surprise early pacesetters Reading at what is a fortress Bramall Lane so far this term.

Five other matches take place on the evening and they include the other two teams to be relegated from the Premier League last season in Norwich City and Burnley. Burnley welcome Millwall to Turf Moor while Norwich look for a fourth successive win when they travel to St Andrews to take on Birmingham City. Elsewhere, Hull City will look to back up their win at the weekend when they head to London to take on QPR while Wigan Athletic will be out for a response to their drubbing at the hands of Burnley when they entertain West Bromwich Albion while Cardiff City and Luton Town meet in the Welsh capital.

Betting

There are a couple of bets I like over the course of Tuesday’s action with the first of those coming at St Andrews where I expect Norwich City to beat Birmingham City. Birmingham have a win over Huddersfield Town this season, which I’m not convinced is much of a result, but in their other five matches they have scored all of one goal and have lost to two of the promoted sides in their last two matches. Norwich started the season very slowly but have won their last three matches and in Millwall and Sunderland have beaten a couple of competent outfits. Birmingham have big issues defensively. Rotherham tore them to shreds in a 2-0 win at the weekend and if the Rotherham attack is doing that this Norwich one could have a field day. An open defence and little offense is a bad combination for the Blues and I expect them to suffer another defeat here.

The over in the Hull City match served me well on Saturday and I’m happy to play it again when they take on a QPR side who haven’t kept a clean sheet yet this season. To be fair, Hull have only kept one and that was against Preston whose games seemingly have buses parked in front of both goals at the minute. Hull are scoring freely though and as I mentioned on Saturday their Colombian striker Oscar Estupinan looks too good for this level. QPR aren’t keeping clean sheets but they’re not being shut out too often so I expect the goals to flow here, particularly as Hull aren’t watertight at the back either. There is plenty of 10/11 dotted about on over 2.5 here and in the 12 Championship matches these two have been involved in this term that line has been covered seven times and they’ve both had a 1-1 draw too. I like over 2.5 here.
