Big Matches

The main TV cameras are going to be at The New Den to see whether Luton Town can pick up their first win of the season at the fifth attempt after their relegation from the Premier League last term. They face a Millwall side who got up and running before the international break and will look to build on that. Two other matches are available for us to watch on Saturday. One of those is arguably the biggest match of the season so far as potentially the two favourites for promotion meet at Elland Road as Leeds United host Burnley. Oxford United and Stoke City will look to build on their good starts when they meet in the other game at the Kassam Stadium.

Best of the Rest

Sunderland are the pacesetters in the Championship at the minute and they take the only 100% record in the division on the long journey to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. Argyle are looking for their first win under Wayne Rooney. West Brom aren’t in action until Sunday so the next highest team in action are Watford who welcome Coventry City to Vicarage Road. At the other end of the table, Cardiff City sit bottom of the pile and they will be looking to come off the foot of the table when they head to Pride Park to take on Derby County. Blackburn and Middlesbrough have made decent starts to the season. They host Bristol City and Preston North End respectively.

Betting

I can’t say I was massively impressed with QPR when they were at Luton before the international break but they hung in well against a good side and then when their opportunities came along they were ruthless and ended up with a smash and grab win. Those qualities aren’t bad but they brought a few players in late on in August and Marti Cifuentes has had a couple of weeks to work with his new charges and get his philosophy into them so they should go much better from here on.

I thought Sheffield Wednesday were going to be a much improved side this season and when they walloped Plymouth 4-0 in their opening game it looked like I was going to be right but things have come to a major halt since then. They have lost their three matches after that and haven’t scored a goal and in truth haven’t looked like scoring. They were awful at Sunderland, looked toothless against Leeds and fair enough they are both tricky matches but then a 3-0 loss at Millwall prior to the break where they coughed up 19 shots and lost the xG battle 2.7-0.2 was a real red flag. Based on what we’ve seen so far there are more goals in this QPR side and as such they should avoid defeat here if not win the game.
