Preview

The main TV cameras head to Devon on Tuesday evening for a clash between two sides in the bottom three which even this early in the season feels like a key clash for the pair of them when Plymouth Argyle play host to Portsmouth. QPR are the other team in the bottom three and they have the chance come out of the relegation zone for 24 hours at least if they can see off Middlesbrough at Loftus Road and Plymouth don’t win the TV game. The highest ranked team on show on Tuesday night are Sheffield United and they face a lengthy trip to a confident Bristol City.

Three other matches take place over the course of the night with Watford looking to build on their emphatic win over Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend when they make the trip to Wales to take on Swansea City. Wednesday will be looking to bounce back from that thumping by the Hornets when they host Norwich City while the other game will see two sides in the middle of the table looking to make a bit of a move when Oxford United welcome Hull City to the Kassam Stadium.

Betting

I was tempted by a couple of bets over the course of the night but I’m not one for going too mad in midweek because these fixture lists can get a bit crazy with the short turnaround but I refuse to believe that there won’t be goals at Home Park where Plymouth Argyle welcome Portsmouth to town. These two are no strangers to each other having spent time in the same division for most of the last decade with the exception of last season.

That will help the game flow but here we have the two leakiest defences in the Championship on show and in a match where even this early in the season both teams will recognise the importance of it, I would expect the goals to flow. Plymouth have conceded three or more goals in three of their last four matches, two of whom were against teams in the bottom five in the table at the time that they met, while Portsmouth matches are averaging three goals per game this season. Over 2.5 goals is 1.75 which is short but I’m confident it lands.
