The Premier League might be having a break for the FA Cup this weekend but there is no such luxury for the League 2 sides as another round of matches take place in that division on Saturday.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Exeter v Newport 13:00
Barnet v Wimbledon
Bristol Rovers v Morecambe
Cambridge v York
Carlisle v Stevenage
Crawley v Plymouth
Luton v Hartlepool
Mansfield v Dag & Red
Northampton v Wycombe
Notts County v Leyton Orient
Oxford Utd v Accrington
Yeovil v Portsmouth
Once again this is likely to be a big day at the top and the bottom of the table and there are some matches with higher placed sides facing lower sides scrapping for their lives so we can expect the odd shock or two which always come along at this stage of a season therefore it is important we get value with our bets and don’t take too many short prices.
When I looked at this fixture list there wasn’t too many bets which stood out it has to be said and one that did, goals in the Barnet vs Wimbledon game, doesn’t look all that appealing when you factor in Barnet have kept four clean sheets in a row.
Usually I like taking Plymouth on the road but they are at Crawley who are decent enough at home. You would think Portsmouth will beat Yeovil but they look a little short and since I saw Mansfield play I can’t be taking them at short prices either.
In the end I have been left with a couple of bets which stand out and which I’m happy to take in what isn’t the easiest set of matches to call.
The first one is on a side who were good to me in midweek in Northampton. They saw off Oxford on Tuesday night and I can’t believe we can get the sort of price we currently can on them with a -0.25 handicap here even though Wycombe are usually good on their travels.
We know what Wycombe are going to provide. A lot of anti-football and a defensively strong approach and look to get something on the break but you can only really play that style if you don’t go behind. Wycombe have only conceded nine goals on the road this season but only have 16 goals themselves so they need to keep it tight.
That is easier said than done though against a Northampton side buzzing from eight straight wins and who had scored at least two goals in their previous six matches prior to midweek. I mentioned in midweek how Northampton are tearing this league apart. I fancy them to continue that here but throw in the draw cover we get here and backing them becomes a no brainer.
The other bet I’m going with is goals in the Notts County vs Leyton Orient match. County have suddenly found their scoring since they moved Jon Stead back down the middle and in he and Izale McLeod they have one of the better front two’s in the division on paper.
Leyton Orient have the top scorer in the division and aren’t shy of a goal or two around Jay Simpson either and with both needing to win to keep up their promotion hopes I’m expecting this one to get an end to end feel about it, especially if the deadlock is broken early on.
The reverse meeting between these two ended 3-1 to Orient and I’m expecting to see at least three goals here as well so at just under even money I’m firmly on over 2.5 goals in this encounter.
WON – Back Northampton (-0.25AH) to beat Wycombe for a 4/10 stake at 1.85 with BetVictor
Back Notts County vs Leyton Orient – Over 2.5 goals for a 4/10 stake at 1.95 with Bwin
