The latest fixture list in League 2 takes place on Saturday with 12 more matches in the division. They say the table doesn’t really develop until after 10 games and we are rapidly heading towards that so all the sides will be eager to deliver the goods here ahead of a full set of fixtures in midweek.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Mansfield v Grimsby 12:15
Carlisle v Wycombe
Colchester v Accrington
Crewe v Blackpool
Luton v Doncaster
Morecambe v Crawley
Newport v Cambridge
Notts County v Leyton Orient
Plymouth v Hartlepool
Portsmouth v Barnet
Stevenage v Exeter
Yeovil v Cheltenham
Big Matches
The biggest match of the day probably comes from Kenilworth Road as early pacesetters Luton look to get back on track after back to back defeats when they take on high flying Doncaster. Leaders Plymouth have a home game against Hartlepool and they could go five points clear if they win and results go their way.
Crewe have made a fast start to the season and they welcome Blackpool to Gresty Road in another high profile game while Morecambe, in fourth place going into the weekend, host Crawley. Colchester host Accrington in a battle of two sides in the top half of the table.
Best of the Rest
There is a basement battle at Rodney Parade between Newport County and Cambridge United. Neither will want to lose that. Portsmouth welcome Barnet to Fratton Park while Yeovil and Cheltenham battle in a West Country clash. Stevenage and Exeter meet in another match between two sides in the bottom half.
Betting
I’m going with two bets in this match. I was tempted by the overs at Kenilworth Road but I’d rather Luton got back on a more consistent background before I get back involved in their matches again so it is two other home sides I will focus on.
Accrington can be a tricky side to call but I suspect that might not be the case this week given how hard they fought against West Ham in the EFL Cup in midweek. They were undone in the last minute in that match but would have been doing plenty of chasing of the ball. They now head to Colchester less than 72hrs later in what is going to be a real test of their mettle physically.
Colchester have made an excellent start to the season and with that advantage they have over Accrington I’m expecting that fine start to continue. The best thing is that we get plenty of draw cover on Colchester should Accrington be a tough nut to break down but after 90 odd minutes against a quality in side in midweek I’m expecting a comedown here which Colchester can take advantage of.
Plymouth lost their opening two matches of the season but have looked the real deal since and they look an obvious bet in their home match against Hartlepool on Saturday. Hartlepool have won only one of their last seven matches and they’ve suffered a 6-1 away towelling in that time too and I’m not expecting much from them here.
Plymouth needed a couple of weeks to gel after shipping a load out and getting a load in during the summer but they look to have done that now and we are all seeing the quality they have. They are blasting a nice trail at the top of the table and I’m expecting that to continue with a win here.
