We were due to have a full fixture list in Skybet League 2 on Saturday but the foul weather has already seen a couple of postponements. We are left with some matches between sides in mid-table looking to launch a playoff push and other matches between top and bottom teams who are fighting for different agendas.
The remaining fixtures for Saturday at the time of writing are as follows:
Cambridge v Dag & Red
Carlisle v Accrington
Mansfield v Morecambe
Northampton v York
Notts County v Hartlepool
Portsmouth v Leyton Orient
Stevenage v Crawley
Wycombe v Luton
Yeovil v Plymouth
This was always going to be a tricky round to bet on purely because so many personnel changes were made to each squad on transfer deadline day but when we factor in the weather as well it gets no easier so I’m not going to push the boat out this week even though there are a few I had originally liked.
A couple of the bets I liked have already been postponed. Of the matches that are left that I’m not taking I did like the idea of goals up at Carlisle but the home side have tightened up a bit recently and Accrington might be getting to the time where their resources are quite stretched.
As it is I’m going with two bets and they come in the top vs bottom matches. Indeed the first one is the top side against the bottom one when Northampton host York.
Northampton are blazing a brilliant trail this season and have won nine of their last 10 league matches and even a defeat to Portsmouth in the middle of that run was by no means a bad result.
The Cobblers have strengthened in the transfer window with the signings of Danny Rose and Luke Prosser. They come in to bolster an already good looking squad so Northampton have set their stall out for glory over the remainder of the season.
York’s away form is woeful. Just one win on the road all season and only 12 goals in 14 matches so it is clear where their problems lie. They made a couple of signings of their own as the transfer window drew to a close but really they needed plenty of signings to be competitive with a side like Northampton.
Nobody has more points or wins at home than Northampton this season and it would be a big surprise if they don’t extend that record in this match.
Northampton dominate the division at home and in terms of points gained Plymouth are the best side in it away from home and I expect them to confirm why on Saturday too.
They travel to a Yeovil side who are indifferent at best at home and who I saw look really poor at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday. They looked to lack quality and at times lacked ideas and while their recent form has been pretty good I expect a side as solid as Plymouth to deal with them today.
Plymouth were beaten in an ill-tempered match with Wycombe last week but that should only have added fuel to their fire for this match and if it has I certainly don’t see them being beaten and I’d be surprised if they don’t win.
WIN – Back Northampton (-1AH) to beat York for a 4/10 stake at 1.82 with Unibet
POSTPONED – Back Plymouth (-0.25AH) to beat Yeovil for a 4/10 stake at 1.95 with Bet365
