We haven’t had a midweek round in League 2 for a while but that all changes on Tuesday night when the latest fixture list takes place. We’re approaching a quarter of the way into the season even though it only began a little over seven weeks ago and already the cream is beginning to rise to the top.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)
Accrington v Mansfield
Blackpool v Portsmouth
Cambridge v Yeovil
Cheltenham v Stevenage
Crawley v Colchester
Doncaster v Carlisle
Exeter v Notts County
Grimsby v Newport
Hartlepool v Luton
Leyton Orient v Plymouth
Wycombe v Crewe
Barnet v Morecambe 20:00
Big Matches
There are some big matches in this round of matches with one of them involving the leaders Plymouth who travel to Leyton Orient who became the first club to sack their manager on Monday. Second placed Portsmouth will be looking to take advantage of any slip ups when they head to Blackpool while third placed Luton are also on the road when they go to Hartlepool.
In terms of league position the match of the night could well be at the Keepmoat as Doncaster in fourth place host Carlisle in sixth place in a battle of two sides who will expect to be there or thereabouts come the business end of the season.
Best of the Rest
Two struggling sides meet at Whaddon Road when Cheltenham host Stevenage. Two mid-table sides meet as improving Accrington host Mansfield while struggling Newport head up to Grimsby in one of many long journeys taking place in the division on this night.
Betting
I’m going to side with a couple of bets on this round of matches and the first is on a team I took on when betting on Saturday’s games. That is Accrington who actually came from behind and almost defied all logic to beat Colchester on Saturday. Having had the heartache of losing to West Ham less than 72hrs earlier I really didn’t expect that but it bodes well for them here.
They face a Mansfield side who are without a goal in their last four matches and obviously haven’t won any of those games and who have lost six of their last seven matches against Accrington too so there isn’t much to like about the Stags right now.
Accrington have won their last three league matches and should be heading into this one full of confidence and I think they can pick up another win here.
The other bet is for the leaders Plymouth to get something over at Leyton Orient. Ever since my own team Luton have come back into the league I’ve always thought Plymouth are set up to be better on the road and that still appears to be the case.
Orient are a mess right now and I’m not convinced the sacking of Hessenthaler is going to change that. They have only won one of their last five matches and their only home win this season was against a pretty average Stevenage side. Plymouth are much better than that and I’m expecting them to at least avoid defeat if not win the game.

Nice call on Plymouth Kev. Unfortunetly that was the only game to let me down on the Betfred goals galore coupon (8 timer acc. 100/1) If Orient were in a mess before they are a shambles now and clearly totally lacking any sort of discipline. How can any professional be sent off after a mere 20 seconds into the game, that surely has to be some sort of record. More crap to come for them before it gets better. Red hot relegation candidates for sure…JR
