There are three matches in Skybet League 2 on Tuesday night as the sides look to catch up with matches lost either to cup runs or adverse weather and for two sides in particular Tuesday is a big night.
Plymouth and Luton both have their eyes on promotion this season and have the chance to enhance those hopes on Tuesday night as they play games in hand of their rivals.
Exeter vs Wycombe
Two of the form sides in the division meet at St James’ Park as Exeter host Wycombe with both sides firmly having their eyes set on the playoffs at the end of the season.
Exeter head into the match unbeaten in 10 matches while Wycombe are 12 unbeaten in the league so this one is going to be hard fought especially with the winners moving up to fifth in the table and potentially fourth.
I’m not going to bet on this match as there isn’t enough of a margin in the prices. I would have favoured Exeter given Wycombe have Saturday’s cup heartache to get over but it isn’t an easy match to predict and no tempting odds.
Luton vs Cheltenham
Hold the back page but with back to back wins at home Luton might finally be getting things right. This will be a further test of that statement against a Cheltenham side they have already failed to beat this season despite Nathan Jones’ side having a good away record.
I like Luton in this match I must admit but with no Danny Hylton who is out suspended and Cameron McGeehan done for the season the price is a bit too skinny to get involved especially with Cheltenham signing even more players since the weekend making them more of an unknown quantity.
Yeovil vs Plymouth
Two sides going in opposite directions meet at Huish Park. After a decent spell of form heading into Christmas, Yeovil are now eight without a win and next week’s EFL Trophy quarter final could be their season now. Plymouth sit second in the table and can move within four points of Doncaster with a game in hand with a win here.
In fairness to Yeovil they’ve had a horrible run of fixtures in this winless run of theirs but it doesn’t exactly get any easier in this one against a Plymouth side who have made a statement of intent with their signings over the last week and who arrive in Somerset in decent form.
Plymouth have won three of their last four in the league and taken Liverpool to a replay and to the limit in the FA Cup. They head here with the second best away record in the league and that is a record I expect them to enhance in this one.
