The last fixture to get underway in the latest round of Specsavers County Championship matches this week is the heavyweight battle between Surrey and Yorkshire from the Kia Oval in Division One.
It is fair to say the season hasn’t gone to plan for either side so far with Yorkshire languishing down in fifth spot going into the week while Surrey sit in the relegation zone heading into this match so they’ll both be after a much needed win.
Surrey
Surrey were given a bit of a hiding by Warwickshire in this competition last week and don’t really have much momentum to go into this match with. Their slump has coincided with that agonising loss to Somerset last month and you wonder what is going to going to snap them out of things.
It might be the return of Jason Roy launches them into life again but they remain without Kumar Sangakkara and Ravi Rampaul for this match as they are both away in the Caribbean Premier League and Gary Wilson is away with Ireland so Surrey could be stronger in all departments it must be said.
Yorkshire
Yorkshire suffered their first defeat in three seasons last week and you could tell with their players on social media in the aftermath just how much it hurt and it is a case of beware the wounded cricketers in that regard this week. The table gave them enough of an incentive to win here but that defeat will only have focused the mind further.
Last week Yorkshire were without a number of players away on England duty but they have Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett and David Willey back for this match so they are much stronger in personnel but they did have to play a T20 match in Derby on Sunday so you would have to say the schedule could have been a little kinder to them.
Betting
You’ve got to think that Yorkshire will bounce back in this match but their price isn’t one that ever interests me but a number of the bookmakers have this down as a live in play match so it might be that if Surrey can get off to a solid start Yorkshire do drift to an acceptable price and then we can get on them but from the beginning this one is a no bet at the current odds.
