You could be forgiven for forgetting about the Super League this week with all the fantastic amounts of different sport that is on but there are three matches from the elite division with one match live in front of the cameras and hopefully more betting opportunities.
We’re in excellent form with the rugby league tips with the last eight suggested picks all winning so hopefully we can continue that good run over the rest of the weekend. We’ll start off with the TV match.
Warrington Wolves vs Hull FC
The top two in Super League will do battle in front of the cameras at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night as Warrington in second host the leaders Hull FC in a match where top spot is up for grabs. The top four is so tight at the minute that nobody can afford to slip up as they chase the League Leaders Shield.
Warrington go into the game off the back of big wins over Leeds and St Helens in the last two weeks but in truth I’m not sure how strong a form guide that is. Certainly this will be their toughest test of the three so they will be pleased to have Ashton Sims and Kevin Penny back from suspension and injury respectively.
Hull FC have now won their last six matches in league and cup and any doubts about whether they can stay the distance can officially go now. This lot are the real deal and they are here to stay but this will be an acid test of their credentials and will give us all an indication of whether they are pretenders or genuine Grand Final contenders.
Hull FC have Frank Pritchard and Liam Watts back for this match which is a big thing for the visitors and I’m going to side with them now they have drifted to a price too big for me to ignore. I fancy this will be a close match with a score either way in it so at the odds the value is on the league leaders here.
Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors
Two sides I’ve struggled to call this season meet at Craven Park in a match I’m not really sure how I think will go. I flagged up the fact that Hull KR look to finally be finding some sort of consistency last week and that rang true and I wouldn’t be wholly surprised if they turn Wigan over here.
I’m not sure what to make of Wigan. Clearly there is this issue with John Bateman hanging over them and until someone actually comes out and officially says what the issue is people will keep chipping away and it doesn’t help. Whether they can ignore all that and focus on the field remains to be seen. You’d expect Wigan to win this but something in the back of my mind is telling me it isn’t as straightforward as that. I’ll leave this one.
Leeds Rhinos vs Salford Red Devils
I find it really amazing that despite their clear awful form this season that Leeds are still the favourites to win this game. Admitted they are only slight favourites but they are favourites all the same. Maybe that is because Salford flatter to deceive and that would be true but they tend to deliver the goods as an underdog.
As silly as this sounds about a side who just nine months ago were winning every pot in the game, I wonder if Leeds have forgotten how to win. They’ve lost a lot of tight games this season and when the chances came to put pressure on Catalans last week they couldn’t take them which is very un-Leeds like.
Salford’s strength is in their back line with their half back pairing especially in good nick and I’m confident Dobson and Lui will win the battle of the half backs. With Leeds missing a number of players still I feel obliged to take them on again especially with the way they have defended this season.
We might have to ride a few hairy moments but I can’t have Leeds as favourites for anything right now. I’m tentatively with the visitors with the value in mind here.
