The race for the remaining Super League spots resumes again on Saturday with a televised clash between Hull KR and the Bradford Bulls.
Both sides have been part of the Super League make up for much of the time the competition has been in existence so it would be fitting if both are in it next year.
Given that they have won all four of their qualifying matches so far it will take something pretty extraordinary for Hull KR not to be in with the big boys next season but another win here will just rubber stamp their survival.
Bradford are pushing hard for a recall to the top flight. They’ve won two and lost two of their qualifying matches thus far so they really need two wins from their last three matches to give themselves a strong chance of making it back. One more win could see them in the Million Pound match.
Rovers go into this match without Albert Kelly. Chris Chester has ruled the half back out for the season unless Hull KR need him in a must win match which they’re unlikely to encounter now. Ben Cockayne and Dane Tilse have been recalled for this match.
Bradford were given a good hiding by Widnes last week so will be looking to bounce back from that. They bring Chev Walker back into their squad at the expense of James Clare as they seek a win which will really catapult them into the mix.
I can’t see Hull KR not winning this game. I just think they’ll be too strong in the backs but they’re being asked to cover a large handicap. I wouldn’t be too surprised if they do cover a 22pt start but given they didn’t have the week off in the Challenge Cup week I’m not convinced they will.
By the same token I’m not convinced Bradford will stay close after last week either. If I had to choose I’d take Hull KR to cover the handicap but I’m not totally sure so maybe the best thing is to give the game a miss from a betting point of view and that is what I will do.
