Super League – Sunday 21st February Betting Preview

There are two matches in the Super League on Sunday and while neither of them are televised that doesn’t mean that there are no betting opportunities.

The two matches see the four clubs who finished outside the top eight last season involved as they enter the Challenge Cup a round earlier than the rest of the Super League sides. With that the fixtures are Hull KR vs Wakefield and Salford vs Widnes.

Hull KR haven’t had the best of starts to the season it has to be said but generally they are pretty strong at home and this looks their best chance to pick up their first win of the season.

Wakefield haven’t really got going this season yet and they too might look at this match as their best chance to get their season into life so that added to the fact both sides are from Yorkshire will ensure it is competitive.

I’m going to sit that match out I think. Neither are at top speed and I’d prefer to see a couple more matches from both just to get a stronger feel before I back them.

I will get involved in the other game. Salford had a brilliant win last week when they overwhelmed St Helens at the AJ Bell Stadium and they go up against a Widnes side who were equally impressive last week in thrashing Leeds so both sides will be full of confidence here.

Salford actually begin the game as four point favourites which I find odd. I’ve a feeling for Widnes in the game although it is hard to argue that Salford were anything but very impressive last week. However they need to show that sort of performance every week before they can be taken seriously.

In the end I’m not going to back either side to win the match. I’m going for points and plenty of them. Both these sides convert a lot of scoring chances into tries and both put up over 40pts last week so their attacking units are in good touch.

Defensively you wouldn’t rely on either. Salford were taken apart by Hull FC in the opening week of the campaign so they can be opened up and while Widnes haven’t been yet they can leak points too so I like the idea of there being over 45.5pts in this one where both sides need just four tries each to see this line covered.
