Another round of matches in the Super League begins on Thursday night and it could be a momentous occasion for Castleford Tigers when they play host to their local rivals Wakefield Trinity at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle.
The Tigers head into the match knowing if they win it they will top the Super League table come the end of the season while Wakefield Trinity need to keep on winning if they are to join Castleford in the play-offs.
Castleford Tigers
The Tigers have been brilliant this season and it remains only a matter of time before they are crowned regular season champions. That will be here with a victory so they certainly shouldn’t lack for motivation heading into this game. How they keep their form for another five weeks before a semi-final will be the tougher test.
There have not been many constants in this Super League campaign but the attacking brilliance of the Castleford unit has certainly been one of them. It hasn’t mattered if Daryl Powell has rotated or had injuries they have still been brilliant. Defensively has been the real difference for them. They have been very solid all year.
Wakefield Trinity
If the Trinity needed a confidence boost heading into this contest they certainly got it last week. They go into the match off the back of a destruction of the Leeds Rhinos to keep their top four hopes very much alive. If they can back up that performance with a similar one here then they would have every chance of an upset.
Wakefield were excellent offensively last week but that should not really surprise us. They have been underrated in attack for far too long even with Tom Johnstone injured. What really caught the eye in that win last week was their defence which was aggressive, strong and very together as a unit. It will need to be here too.
Team News
The big news for the home side is that top try scorer Greg Eden is back for this match which is ahead of schedule as he was expected to miss the rest of the season at one point. Junior Moors and Andy Lynch also return to the squad.
Wakefield Trinity bring their own exciting winger back into their ranks for this one in the form of Mason Caton-Brown. He missed the win over Leeds last week but has been recalled.

Betting
Castleford Tigers’ matches are going to become tricky to bet on for the rest of the season because their motivation will be guesswork but that is not the case here. They won’t want to win the leaders’ shield when they don’t play so I expect them to be bang up for this and that could spell trouble for Wakefield Trinity.
That said the sheer nature of the way the match is set up with Wakefield having to win makes me think we will be seeing points here. In fairness were Trinity to get walloped here they wouldn’t be the first to feel the force of the Tigers at the Jungle this season and they may not be the last but Wakefield must be preparing for this match knowing they are going to have to score points to compete. With that in mind over 48.5pts looks the way to go here.
