Super League XXII – Friday 3rd March Matches Betting Preview

The latest round of Super League matches continues on Friday night with two more fixtures in the top flight as the fledgling table begins to take shape. Once again we have a match in front of the cameras and one away from it and as ever we will kick things off with the live game.

St Helens vs Wakefield Trinity Wildcats

St Helens will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing loss at Leigh last week when they entertain a Wakefield side who have lost their opening two matches of the season and who need a win themselves quite desperately.

Surprisingly for a side of their reputation St Helens’ attack is yet to click into life. Matty Smith’s absence is very much a reason for that but they are too good for that to continue for too long. On the plus side they have generally defended their line well which is a positive.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are in the same boat as St Helens in that they haven’t shipped too many points but they haven’t looked like scoring too many either. Wakefield are also full of injuries heading into this match too which isn’t ideal.

I think this match has come at the right time for St Helens. I expect their attacking combinations to deliver the goods here off the back of the forward momentum their pack is likely to bring them. Wakefield will be game opponents but I just see Saints being too strong here.

Wigan Warriors vs Leigh Centurions

The champions host their local rivals at the DW Stadium this week still with a perfect Super League record intact and with the World Club Challenge title under their belts. Leigh got off the mark for the campaign last week and will be full of confidence heading in here.

Wigan are doing plenty of good things this season and while they might be shipping a few points more than they would like they are scoring them which was a concern last season. Leigh are scoring points themselves but you always get the feeling that there is a defensive lapse around the corner for them.

I think Wigan will win the game and probably do it by a couple of scores as they get stronger the longer the game goes and Leigh tire but if the Centurions have something to hold onto then the adrenalin of the night could see them keep this a bit closer than expected. There is just a few too many points for comfort on the handicap to be backing Wigan so I’ll sit this one out.
