It is a busy night in the Super League on Friday when five matches take place as the remaining 10 sides conclude their pre-Easter action. We have one match on TV which will we preview in full and then four matches away from the cameras in which we will cover but not in as much detail.
Warrington Wolves vs Leeds Rhinos
You would have got good money on Warrington Wolves making it into April without a win to their name in the Super League and three or four weeks into the campaign you would have made just as much had you said Leeds Rhinos would go into this weekend level with Castleford at the top of the table. It has been that kind of season so far.
Warrington gave themselves something to build on when they came from behind to draw with Hull FC last week but they still don’t look anything special and they will be without Kevin Brown for this match which probably isn’t ideal. Leeds will be missing Brett Ferres but he hasn’t played much this season anyway. Overall I would say Leeds are the more settled side though.
That settled nature could well serve Leeds well. They have found their stride in the last four weeks and look much more like the side we expect them to be. If this is a tight match you would think they will have more belief to get over the line and if it isn’t you would think it will be them galloping away. They’re my pick in this one.
Rest of the Card
The other four matches see Hull FC hosting Salford Red Devils, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats welcoming Widnes Vikings to Belle Vue, Leigh Centurions hosting Catalans Dragons and St Helens faces Huddersfield Giants.
The first two matches don’t really interest me. The handicap looks fair at Wakefield while Hull FC’s collapse last week is a concern and I just can’t bring myself to back Huddersfield even with a fairly generous looking start.
In the other match Leigh have made their home ground a very tough place to go already this season and I expect that to continue when road shy Catalans come to town. Catalans seem to kill themselves time and time again especially on their travels where they give away an insane amount of penalties.
Widnes put up a top effort to beat Leigh at the Sports Village last week but that should have refocused the minds of the Centurions who can cover 2pts against the French side.
