Super League XXII – Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Super League continues on Saturday evening when two of last season’s top four meet as Hull FC host the Wigan Warriors in a clash of the trophy winners from the last campaign.

Hull FC landed the Challenge Cup last season while Wigan won the Grand Final and both sides will be looking to get back among the silverware in this campaign with two points here being a big help.

Hull FC

Hull FC were dominant last season with them spending the majority of the campaign top of the table but ultimately once they had won the Challenge Cup they fizzled out which will have disappointed them. This season inconsistency both in team selection and results have meant they are down in mid-table.

There hasn’t been too much in the way of inconsistency in their results in recent times but unfortunately for FC they haven’t been good. They have lost their last three matches and the manner of them has been very worrying even allowing for the injuries that they have had in that time.

Wigan Warriors

Injuries haven’t solely been restricted to Hull FC. Wigan have had more than their fair share of them too and in a period as busy as this one has been that has certainly hampered them too. They go into this match without a win in three matches although they did sneak a draw at the Magic Weekend to their credit.

Generally despite their injury struggles their defence has been pretty good. Wakefield tore them apart on Monday after a busy schedule but in the main sides have to work hard to break them down and as players come back from injury that will only further be the case. If they can sort out their attack they’ll be fine.

Team News

Hull FC have an injury list as long as your arm and they go into this match without captain Gareth Ellis, the influential Marc Sneyd, Mahe Fonua and Scott Taylor and if that wasn’t enough Josh Griffin and Liam Watts are both suspended.

Wigan are hoping to be able to welcome Joel Tomkins and Liam Forsyth back into their squad for this match but more importantly their half-back pairing are in one piece which could be massive.

Betting

You would have to say neither of these sides are in good nick at the minute and there is no doubt that injuries are the reason for that but of the two units that are going to take the field in this match Wigan Warriors look in much better shape to me.

They will need to keep an eye on the likes of Jamie Shaul and Albert Kelly through the middle but you rarely score up the gut against Wigan so I’m definitely with the visitors here. Both sides are winless since the Magic Weekend but Hull FC got walloped there then lost to Leigh which isn’t good and had a hard game in France on Monday and have had to travel back and things.

Wigan weren’t great at Newcastle but got a draw with Warrington and then although they went down to St Helens that was only late on in a game which could have gone either way. They got exposed by a fresher Wakefield on Monday but all in all they look in the better state right now and have my backing.
