Another week of Super League matches begins on Thursday evening when the Wakefield Trinity side head across the Pennines to take on a surging Wigan Warriors team who are looking for the two points to end up with a home semi-final.
After their win over St Helens last week, Wigan look to be in pole position for the home game in the play-offs. In all honesty Wakefield saw their season end from a competitive standpoint a while back but they have not given in.
Wigan Warriors
The whole of the Wigan squad should be buzzing after their win against their rivals last week. It was a match they were in control of from start to finish and if they can replicate that performance for the remainder of the season they could yet be celebrating something special at Old Trafford next month. A win here would assist them in that quest.
Wigan are generally strong through the middle but the longer the season has gone on the better they have been around the edges and in the back line. They are a side who know how to finish strongly and so we should not be surprised that they look to be playing their best rugby at the present time.
Wakefield Trinity
I guess in reality Wakefield Trinity achieved their aim when they finished in the top eight in the regular season. I’m sure publicly they will be pushing to improve and sneak into a top four spot but this season I don’t think that was ever going to be a reality with the improvement in St Helens and Warrington.
I think it is important for Wakefield to remain competitive and not just let their season run out and they have done that. They can build for the future from it and they have the ideal chance to spoil one or two parties between now and the end of the campaign beginning with this match. They have nothing to lose now so can give this a good go.
Team News
Wigan Warriors are set to include Dom Manfredi for the first time in two years after he has recovered from a pair of nasty knee injuries. Sam Tomkins should be back after missing the derby win last week.
Wakefield Trinity are rotating a couple of members of their squad as is the case with most sides these days. They have left Max Jowitt and Anthony England out and recalled Chris Annakin and Joe Arundel.

Betting
Wakefield Trinity have a pretty good record against Wigan Warriors it has to be said and I see no reason why they will just roll over and lay down against them here. They are a side that score a lot of points as Hull FC and Huddersfield can testify to in recent weeks.
Wigan will be right up for this so we should be in for an excellent game of rugby but the fact the Warriors will only want to win the game and bag the two points rather than run up the score makes me think Wakey with the dozen start are the bet in this one.
