Super League XXIV – Thursday 18th April Matches Betting Preview

The busy Easter period in Super League kicks off on Thursday evening when the first two matches take place. It is derby time for the first of the two sets of fixtures over the Bank Holiday weekend so competitive action is almost guaranteed.

There is always a level of unpredictability about these Easter matches which makes it good for neutrals but not necessarily the best for us punters. One of the two games is live on Sky with the other match having regular updates.

Castleford Tigers vs Wakefield Trinity

The televised match comes from The Jungle where two teams in the top four in the table meet as the Castleford Tigers take on their local rivals Wakefield Trinity in what should be a juicy way to begin the Easter period.

Cas began the season very well but they have faded a little in recent times with three defeats in their last four, although the last two losses were by a cumulative three points so it isn’t like they are getting beaten out of sight or anything like that. Nevertheless, they will be looking for a return to winning ways here. Wakefield have won their last three matches and four of their last five so they are in decent touch.

Castleford are being asked to cover a 10pt handicap which on the face of it would appear quite a lot but Wakefield have a massive injury list to get over here so actually I think Castleford will begin to dominate the match the longer it goes on and end up covering this with a little bit in hand.

London Broncos vs Catalans Dragons

There isn’t much that is local about the London Broncos and the Catalans Dragons but it is they who meet down in Ealing to get their Easter weekend underway and it is a big match for both sides, given their standings in the table.

London made a good start to the season but they’ve lost their last four now, including a nasty defeat to Championship side Halifax in the cup last week, whereas Catalans have won five and lost five but could catapult themselves into the top four with a good Easter. You would have to say that the inconsistencies of both teams makes this a tough betting heat though and as such I’m happy to leave this one alone.
