Super League XXIX – Friday 12th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXIX season continues on Friday night when we have a couple of matches taking place at both ends of the country including potentially the clash of the campaign so far on a mouth-watering night of rugby league.

We see the last two champions going up against each other in the marquee match on the night but two of the struggling teams battle it out in an equally important game for them in the other. Both matches are live on TV for us to enjoy.

London Broncos vs Castleford Tigers (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The lower key match on Friday night comes from the Kuflink Stadium as the London Broncos take a match to Ebbsfleet as the Castleford Tigers are the visitors for what the sport will hope is a bit of a showpiece occasion.

The Broncos haven’t had the season that they would have wanted this term with just one win to their name so far but they nearly shocked the Leeds Rhinos last week, going down in golden point extra time. The Tigers also haven’t had the campaign that they would have been looking for so far but a win over St Helens last week shows what they are capable of when they deliver the goods and perform like they can. The test for them here is to do that for a second week in a row, in a much lower key setting and it might not be easy for them to get up for this match. I think the Tigers will win but I’m not convinced they will cover 16pts in this match. London are obviously going to be up for this one with them looking to put on a bit of a show and having Jack Campagnolo back in the halves will certainly help them. Castleford look to be improving as the season goes on but they’ll be happy just to win here and off the back of a solid effort last week, I think London can stay within 16 here even if they aren’t good enough to win the match.

Wigan Warriors vs St Helens (20.00 – Sky Sports Action)

The pick of the matches on Friday night comes from the DW Stadium where the champions Wigan Warriors go up against their bitter rivals St Helens who will be smarting from defeat to Castleford last week and looking to bounce back and keep the race for the League Leaders’ Shield in their grasp.

Wigan have been in superb form this season and have already pocketed two trophies having landed the World Club Challenge and the Challenge Cup and a win here would put them well on the way to the Shield as well. Defeat here though brings St Helens back into the game and the two meet again at Magic Weekend in a few weeks so it would make things very interesting. That makes me think that Wigan will win this but I don’t think they are quite as potent without Jai Field so that certainly keeps St Helens interested. Saints are just starting to have to do without one or two key players though and while they usually still get the job done against the lesser teams, although last week suggests even then they are vulnerable, against the bigger teams it can hurt them. Matches between these two are usually tight and the one thing we can guarantee is that Saints will raise their game here. I’m tempted by them with a double figure start but they are missing one too many players for my liking.
