Super League XXIX – London Broncos vs Huddersfield Giants Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Rivals Round of Super League XXIX concludes on Sunday when the final match of the weekend takes place at Plough Lane in the capital as the London Broncos go in search of a first win in the season when they host the Huddersfield Giants. uHudde

These two teams have seen all the excellent competitive action that has been played already this week and will look to live up to what has gone before. Sky Sports Action is the place to watch this encounter.

London Broncos

The London Broncos have looked a little out of their depth on their return to the Super League. I don’t think too many would expect them to win too many matches this season but they would have been expected to put themselves into position to win more games than they have been. The flip side of that is that they have had a pretty tough schedule having already faced the top four in the competition in their opening five matches.

The one game they played against a team not at the top of the table they were in a position to beat Hull FC but just fell short late on so that is something that will give them confidence. They looked like a side who were in and around the level in that match and maybe that is what we should judge them on because not many are beating the top four. If you do want them to improve a touch then it is in their defence which has been exposed a little too often and opened up a little too easily as a result.

Huddersfield Giants

This has been a bit of a quiet and low-key opening to the season for the Huddersfield Giants. They probably won’t mind that as it is much better than the ordinary campaign that they endured last term. They have won a couple of their first five matches of the campaign and two of the three defeats were against sides right at the top of the table so they are beating the teams we would expect them to which is the first port of call.

They will want to be more competitive against the better sides at some point this season but from the base they had last term I would imagine everyone is satisfied. They head to London off the back of a convincing win in the Challenge Cup last week where they put 50 points on Hull FC. That was the second week in three that they had scored 50 points so they are in a decent groove in attack, and usually they are a solid side defensively.

Team News

London Broncos will be able to call upon recent loan recruits Jacob Jones and Reiss Butterworth for this match after both were ineligible for the Challenge Cup tie last week but Fenton Rogers is unable to play against his parent club.

Huddersfield Giants coach Ian Watson will be able to select his captain Luke Yates after the forward has recovered from the concussion protocols. Adam Milner and Matty English have knocks though and won’t be selected.

Betting

I would expect the London Broncos to be more competitive in this match than they have been against the likes of Warrington Wolves and St Helens and others this season. I am not necessarily suggesting that they are going to win the match, although that elusive win will come soon, but I expect them to put up a better challenge here. Huddersfield Giants still look worthy favourites but a 26 point handicap is a little on the high side for me to be taking them with any comfort.

I would side with London on that mark but I think the better bet might be for more than 53.5 points to be scored. This is a London side who put 22 points up on Wigan Warriors which looks better and better with every passing game so that bodes well for the points here but we’ve seen against Hull FC last week and Castleford two weeks previously that Huddersfield Giants can put plenty of points on the board when they are in the mood. This feels like a 36-18 sort of game to me if not higher so I’ll take the over here.
