The first weekend of the Super League season concludes at Headingley Stadium on Sunday when the last four sides to start their campaign do so in what looks like being the pick of the three game days of this opening round.
We’ve already seen three of the four semi-finalists from last season open up with wins and the last of those will look to emulate them on Sunday when Hull FC take to the field. All four teams in action on Sunday will have their eye on the title so we should be in for quite some day.
Where to watch
The double header will be screened live as all the matches in the first two rounds will be. They can be watched on the Sky Sports Arena channel with the programme beginning at 12pm and the matches kicking off at 12.30pm and 2.45pm.
Hull FC vs Huddersfield Giants (12.30)
The opening match of the day sees the two sides with new coaches battling it out when the beat semi-finalists of last season Hull FC take on the Huddersfield Giants in a contest which offers both the chance to set their stall out for the season ahead.
These two teams finished last season in very different moods. Hull FC finished with a flourish until they were blown away in the semi-final but from where they were halfway through the campaign they would have taken that. Huddersfield Giants saw their season fizzle out dismally. How much of that matters now they are under new coaches remains to be seen but I sense that Hull FC are the more settled team of the two and that we might not see the best of the Huddersfield Giants for a few weeks until everyone has bedding in and things. That makes me think the 10/11 on a Hull FC win here is the way to go.

Castleford Tigers vs Warrington Wolves (14.45)
The final match of the opening weekend of the Super League season sees the two teams whose coaches are departing at the end of the season battling it out when the Castleford Tigers take on the Warrington Wolves in what could be the game of the round on paper.
Both these sides are generally pretty entertaining to watch but when they meet they are often tight affairs with not many points so it will be interesting to see if that trend continues or whether we’ll see the huge amount of points these two teams should be capable of delivering. I expect a much stronger showing from both teams this term which should ensure we get a competitive game but I think the odds and handicap lines all look about right here so I’ll use this one as a watching brief for what is to come.
