Super League XXVI – Thursday 29th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The truncated latest round in the Super League concludes on Thursday evening when four matches have become two because of Covid-19, however it is still a night where the leaders are on show and two other Grand Final chasing teams also showcase their talents.

Thankfully for those of us who like our Thursday night rugby league fix, the televised match has survived so we have one match on the box and the other one will be able to be kept up with throughout all the other usual methods.

Catalans Dragons vs Wakefield Trinity (18.15)

The table topping Catalans Dragons continue their season on Thursday evening when they play host to the Wakefield Trinity in a match the French outfit are strongly expected to win given the wonderful campaign they are having.

Catalans have won 13 of their 14 matches which probably explains why they are emphatic favourites, although the struggles of Wakefield Trinity are another impacting factor in that. I regularly say when Wakefield have their strongest squad out they are competitive but they can be cannon fodder when they don’t. That all adds up to the Dragons being asked to cover 20 points here and while they might well do that, their struggles to get over the line against Hull KR last week and the brutal schedule means I’m happy to let them do that if they are good enough.

Hull FC vs Leeds Rhinos (19.45 – Sky Sports Arena)

The second match of the evening is the televised contest as Hull FC take on Leeds Rhinos in a clash between a couple of teams who if everything goes without trouble for the remainder of the campaign are both perfectly good enough to be walking out at Old Trafford in October.

You have to feel a little sorry for Hull FC. Prior to last week they had a whole month without action because of all the Covid-19 issues doing the rounds and when they finally got back on the pitch they weren’t really at the races. That must have felt like a pre-season outing after so long away so you would expect Hull FC to come on for the run here. They will need to though because the only team who have beaten the Leeds Rhinos in the last seven matches has been the Catalans Dragons and they are beating everyone right now. When these two met at Headingley earlier in the season Hull FC won but they only did so by six points and you fancy the fortunes and the tables have turned for both clubs since then. I really rate Hull FC this season so I’m not writing them off in this match but Leeds as outsiders look good to me.
