Super League XXVII – Friday 15th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League returns to normal after the highs of the Magic Weekend on Friday night and it does so with a couple of matches taking place which see the top three in the table all in action on a potentially pivotal evening in the competition.

We have one of the two matches on TV for us in the UK to enjoy and although the other one doesn’t have any TV coverage we’ll get the regular updates and highlights at full time that we usually get when more than one game is on.

St Helens vs Huddersfield Giants (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The televised action comes from the Totally Wicked Stadium as St Helens look to build on their dramatic win over Wigan at the Magic Weekend when they host a Huddersfield Giants side who had drama of their own at St James’ Park.

Saints haven’t been their brilliant demolition selves over the course of this campaign but they still lead the way in the table and I guess that is the sign of a good side. Even last weekend they weren’t at their best but they found a way to win, although I think it is fair to recognise that they were helped by a Wigan sending off. Huddersfield came out on top in a high scoring match against Salford Red Devils which was encouraging because if there is a criticism of the Ian Watson coached side it is that they don’t make the most of their attacking positions enough. I would imagine St Helens will win this match, partly because they played the day before Huddersfield at Magic but I do think there are areas in this St Helens side which the Giants can exploit so while I think the visitors will go down, I do expect them to remain within a dozen of the champions here.

Wigan Warriors vs Hull FC (20.00)

The match away from the TV cameras on Friday evening sees the Wigan Warriors playing host to Hull FC in a clash between two sides who had completely different experiences at Magic Weekend last week.

Wigan were beaten in their derby with St Helens while Hull FC surprisingly came out on top in their clash with Hull KR so it will be interesting to see whether the black and whites can build on that as they bid to consolidate their top six position or whether Wigan get back on the horse. I don’t think Wigan did too much wrong in defeat last week even though they succumbed at the end. A piece of ill-discipline cost them dearly at the end but Hull FC looked rejuvenated by their loan signings and offered signs that they can build on going forward. I still think Wigan will come out on top here but after an emotionally charged battle last week there is a potential for them being a little flat here so I’ll leave this one alone.
