Super League XXVII – Friday 19th August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

A big week throughout the Super League continues on Friday night when four more matches in the competition take place with them having relevance at both ends of the table as well as the chase for the play-offs.

We have one of the four matches on TV in the UK to enjoy on Friday night and given that they all kick off at the same time it is highly likely that the other three will get regular updates throughout the coverage for those not going to one of the games.

Friday’s fixtures are as follows: (All 8pm, UK TV in brackets)

Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity (Sky Sports Action)

Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves

St Helens v Hull Kingston Rovers

Wigan Warriors v Toulouse Olympique

Preview

The televised action comes from the MKM Stadium where Hull FC look to remain in the hunt for a place in the play-offs. They welcome a Wakefield Trinity side who could be all but safe for another season in the Super League if they are able to win on Humberside. One of the reasons for that is because in one of the other three matches Toulouse Olympique, now four points adrift of Wakefield with only three matches left after this and with a much worse point difference, head to the DW Stadium to take on a Wigan Warriors side who will want to win to keep Huddersfield at bay in the race for second.

There is no lack of competitive intensity in the other two matches either. Leeds Rhinos are currently the ones trying to fend off the chasing pack to remain sixth in the table. They can take a huge step towards the play-offs if they can beat a Warrington Wolves side who pretty much secured their safety last week and might have nothing to lose here. The other match sees St Helens hosting a Hull KR side who must win to push for the top six.

Betting

The Leeds Rhinos look good things to me on Friday night. I say that because the Warrington Wolves have been terrible for most of the season and even in beating Toulouse Olympique last week there wasn’t much that was convincing about their display. They could easily have lost that but for the poor discipline of the French side. As it is that win secures Super League footy for the Wolves for next season and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a let up in intensity this week, particularly as they have lost the likes of Stefan Ratchford, Connor Wrench and Tom Mikaele for this one.

The Rhinos are beginning to pick up steam under Rohan Smith and need to keep winning to keep themselves in the box seat for that final position in the play-offs. It isn’t just winning that Leeds need but this race could easily come down to point difference so any significant margin they can win by will be welcomed. They finally get to use their spine of Ritchie Myler, Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer in the same side and although the Harry Newman injury is unfortunate I think Leeds have more than enough to cover eight in this one.
