The latest round of matches in the Super League season come to a close on Sunday afternoon when the last three fixtures take place on a day where a number of play-off contenders will be looking to showcase their title credentials.
We don’t usually get live Super League on the box on a Sunday but we do have it here with one of the three games live on Sky. I’m sure they’ll keep us nicely updated on the other two but if not the usual places will. We’ll begin the preview with the TV game.
Hull KR vs Huddersfield Giants (15.15 – Sky Sports Arena)
The televised match on Sunday comes from Craven Park where Hull KR will look to move back into the top six when they host the Challenge Cup finalists Huddersfield Giants, who could move into third with a win if other results go their way.
These two met in the Challenge Cup semi-final earlier in the season which the Giants won to book their place at Tottenham and they also won the Super League match between the two at the John Smith’s Stadium too. The Giants head east having won their last five in Super League and that includes wins over Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons so they are in good nick under Ian Watson. Hull KR on the other hand have lost four of their last five in the Super League and even the win over Salford in that time isn’t the most impressive. Injuries have been hurting Hull KR recently and they are still without a couple of key players here not least in Jordan Abdull. Huddersfield have actually won eight of the last nine against Hull KR in all competitions and the Hull KR win was only by a single point. The form of the two teams suggests that trend can continue.

Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity (15.00)
Two sides who are much lower down the table than they would want to be meet at the AJ Bell Stadium where the Salford Red Devils take on a Wakefield Trinity side whose win last time out just eased their relegation fears.
The victory over the Warrington Wolves actually made it two on the spin for Trinity but they were both at home and now they need to go away to try and make it three in a row. Salford looked like they were moving in the right direction a few weeks ago but since then they have had successive tame losses and need to get back on track here. I’m not sure the season ending injury to Morgan Escare has done the Red Devils any favours so this certainly looks like an opportunity for Wakefield to pick up that third win in succession. There might be some value in Wakefield but they’re not the most reliable on their travels. In truth these are two weak sides and I don’t really want to back either at the prices.
Castleford Tigers vs Catalans Dragons (15.30)
The last of the three matches to kick off comes from The Jungle where the Castleford Tigers will be looking to consolidate their top six position in the table when they host a Catalans Dragons who will be aiming to move back into second place with a win here.
The Tigers have been getting better the longer the season has gone on but the same can probably be said of the Dragons as well so this should be a really good game. It will be a good test of where Castleford are heading towards the end of the regular campaign because there is no weakness in the Catalans side. I think the Dragons might well win this match but I’m less enthused about backing them on their travels as I am comfortable taking them at home. If Castleford were a bigger price I might have been tempted in but they’re not so I’ll leave this one well alone.
