Super League XXX – Friday 28th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXX weekend continues on Friday night with another two matches as four teams continue their quest to get up to speed and lay down their challenge for a lofty league position to set them up for the business part of the campaign.

As was the case last season, every match is being shown on the TV in the UK this term with one match on the main channel and the other on the streaming option so there is access to follow any bets that we have.

Leigh Leopards vs Catalans Dragons (20.00 – Sky Sports Action)

The main game on Friday night takes us to the Leigh Sports Village as the Leigh Leopards look to continue their perfect start to the season when they play host to a currently winless Catalans Dragons outfit, who will be out to change that here.

The Catalans starting a season slowly isn’t a new thing. A lot of the time their NRL recruits come over fairly late and need a month or so to bed in and the indications are that is going to be the case this term too. It is never really a surprise when the Dragons lose on the road like they did in Warrington last week but the loss at home to Hull FC in the opening round was more of a concern. They have injuries too which isn’t helping them. Leigh Leopards have started this campaign where they left off in the last one. They finished the season very strongly last term and have already shut the champions Wigan out and dominated the Huddersfield Giants and they will be hoping to do similar here. When this fixture was on the horizon, I expected Leigh to have to cover more than a converted try given the start to the season that both have had. We can actually get them at an acceptable price to cover just a 5.5 point line and that appeals. Leigh have defended brilliantly so far this season and we are yet to see Catalans really muscle up in defence or strut their stuff in attack. This fixture might have fallen at a good time for Leigh and I’ll back them to cover.

Huddersfield Giants vs Hull FC (20.00 – Sky Sports+)

The other match on the evening will see the Huddersfield Giants going in search of a first win of the season when they entertain a Hull FC side who will probably be very happy to have won one of their opening two games given the schedule that they had.

They went to France and beat the Catalans Dragons, which while the opening week of the season is probably the best time to head to Perpignan, it is never the easiest place to go to so to win there merits respect. They were well beaten by Wigan Warriors last week but they won’t be the only team to suffer that fate this term. Huddersfield have been beaten fairly comfortably by Warrington Wolves and Leigh Leopards so far in this campaign so even this early in the piece this feels like a big evening for them. They need to get off to their first win else plenty of questions will come their way that they won’t want to be answering this early into a new season. I would usually be happy to take the Giants on but I’m still trying to work the merits and strengths of Hull FC out so I’ll use this as a learning exercise rather than a betting one.
