The Hundred 2023 – Northern Superchargers vs Manchester Originals Tips, TV and Betting Preview

We have another double header in The Hundred to enjoy on Sunday with the first of the two matches coming from Headingley where two rivals meet as the Northern Superchargers host the Manchester Originals.

These two sides have both been given a bit of a lesson from the Oval Invincibles in the last week and will be aiming to bounce back with a positive result but also hopefully an emphatic performance against their rivals.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Cricket channel with the build-up to the contest beginning at 2pm ahead of the first ball at 2.30pm.

Northern Superchargers

The Northern Superchargers were beginning to look like they might be the team to beat in this competition this season but they were brought down to earth with a bump by the Oval Invincibles last time out where their bowlers had little answer to the onslaught which came their way. That was always going to be a problem when you consider the home ground the Superchargers play on but they just have to dust themselves down and get ready to go again.

The positive for the Superchargers was that despite leaking too much traction with the ball, their batters almost got them out of trouble and at one stage it looked like they might successfully overhaul the Invincibles’ 185/5 only for them to run out of firepower when it mattered most. If the Northern Superchargers can forget that match and remember they were playing some good cricket prior to it they should be fine.

Manchester Originals

The Manchester Originals have had their battles with the rain which has done them no favours but they have only won one of the three completed matches they have been involved in and given their flirts with the weather they are in a position of needing to win at least three of their last four matches but it might be that they need to win all four if they are to emulate the run of last season to the final of the competition.

They were blown away by the Oval Invincibles in their last match. I have always had concerns over the bowling of the Originals and that was exposed ruthlessly by the Oval outfit at The Oval and the weight of runs Manchester were looking to chase down just proved too much to handle. Admittedly they ran into the most economical bowling spell in franchise cricket but a lot of that was down to their own making with some questionable shot selections. Manchester will be out for much better here.

Key Players

Tom Banton returned to form with a bang against the Oval Invincibles last time out and if he can get after this Manchester Originals bowling from the start it would set the innings up perfectly for the Superchargers.

This is the sort of ground in which Jos Buttler usually fills his boots. Whenever he can trust the pace and bounce of a wicket he is able to get into his work and then go ballistic so the Superchargers will need him out early else Manchester could be on top.

Betting

We saw a barrel load of sixes here on Friday night when the Northern Superchargers took on the Oval Invincibles and I don’t really see much different here. I say that because neither bowling attack is going to put the frighteners into the opposition while there are some absolutely huge hitting batters on show here. The other thing we saw on Friday night is just how small these boundaries are at Headingley these days.

We have the same sixes line as we did on Friday night for this one which is 12.5 and I expect that to be covered. Oval hit 12 in the first innings alone in that match while the Superchargers hit nine of their own with Matt Short and Harry Brook scoring just four runs between them so there is more to come from them in this one. Add in the Manchester-Yorkshire rivalry and I think we’ll have a hard hitting game where the sixes can fly.
