The PGA Tour season finale kicks off on Thursday and with just 29 players teeing it up the competitors will be out in pairs throughout the tournament which gives us some nice two ball markets to go at.
There is no draw for the first round this week. Players go out in ascending order of their FedEx Cup ranking so those out early have the chance to put some pressure on the players they are chasing for overall glory.
First out on Thursday are Louis Oosthuizen and Harris English – 30th and 29th on the current FedEx list and last out are the first and second ranked players – Jason Day and Jordan Spieth.
All eyes will be on that final pairing but there are some wonderful groups in between with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose out together while Bubba Watson is out with Zach Johnson. Rickie Fowler plays alongside Henrik Stenson in the opening round so there is plenty for the Atlanta crowd to enjoy.
There were a couple of groups which took my fancy on the opening day. I thought about Piercy against Lee and I considered Rose against McIlroy but I’ve just got enough doubts to pass those over and instead my bet will come from the main group.
Jason Day amazingly seems to be getting better and better at the minute and as good as Jordan Spieth is and has been this season I actually believe the 10/11 on Day to win is decent value.
Day has already won two of these playoff events and has looked fantastic for the last couple of months. Spieth’s form has slowed up in these playoff events. It might be that what he has done this year has caught up with him but something isn’t clicking in his game right now.
I don’t expect Spieth to be overawed by Day but I don’t see any part of his game that is working better than the Australian’s right now and with that in mind I think the 10/11 on Day outscoring his rival on Thursday is a good thing.
