UEFA Nations League 2022-23 – Saturday 4th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The UEFA Nations League continues on Saturday where we have another seven matches taking place after one was cancelled due to the held over games in the World Cup qualifying series. Some decent teams open their campaign on Saturday.

They include the two finalists at Euro 2020 and a Germany side who have underperformed in this competition in its existence so far. They form part of a very good looking schedule on a decent looking Saturday.

League A

There is just the one group in action in the top league on Saturday and that comes from A3 which might be the pick of the four groups at this level. The action begins in Budapest where Hungary host the Euro 2020 finalists England in a match which was expected to be behind closed doors but suddenly 30,000 have been allowed in. The pick of the two matches in this group comes after that England game has finished as Italy welcome Germany in a heavyweight clash.

League B

We are down to three matches in League B on Saturday after the Scotland vs Ukraine match was delayed to the next international window with those sides involved in World Cup qualifying this week. That match would have come in B1 but the game which does take place in that group sees Armenia hosting Republic of Ireland in the first of the matches to kick off on Saturday. The other action comes from B3 where Finland host Bosnia and Herzegovina with both teams looking for a good start with Euro 2024 qualification being determined by results in this. Montenegro host Romania in the other game.

Leagues C and D

There is action in just the one group in Leagues C and D on Saturday and that comes from C1 where all eyes will be on Turkey who will be expected to dominate this section. They start off their quest to do exactly that when they play host to the Faroe Islands. That is the later game to kick off with the first of the two matches to begin seeing an indifferent Lithuania outfit playing host to a Luxembourg team who have improved with the benefit of this competition.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets with both of them coming from the top tier. I mentioned on Friday that for some reason teams in this top league seem to go for it more and more in this competition and we certainly saw the evidence of that in the Belgium vs Netherlands game and I see nothing different happening when Hungary host England. Now that there are going to be supporters in the ground creating something of an atmosphere I expect these two to go after goals, particularly Hungary who know they have to take advantage of home matches in a very tough section. England naturally go for goals because they have so much attacking talent and as a result of that I expect over 2.25 goals. These two were in the same World Cup qualifying group and their meeting here ended 4-0 to England. I expect them to combine for three goals here.

The other bet I like over the course of the play on Saturday is for Germany to get the better of Italy. I’ll obviously take some draw cover here because a draw certainly isn’t a bad result for either team but Italy are having to go through a transitional period since Euro 2020 and it is fair to say it hasn’t really gone swimmingly so far. They were obviously denied a shot at competing at the World Cup when Jorginho missed that penalty in their final qualifier and then got shocked by North Macedonia in the play-offs. They also didn’t really land a blow on Argentina at Wembley on Wednesday night. Italy played a strong side there so they are either going to have to play fringe players here or will have some tired legs and chasing the likes of Serge Gnabry and co around the park with heavy legs isn’t likely to be a successful plan. Germany are probably a year or so into their transition and if there is a winner in this match then I expect it to be them.
