UEFA Nations League 2024-25 – Monday 9th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The middle set of matches in the second round of games in the new UEFA Nations League season take place on Monday night when plenty of teams look to either build on a good start or repair a poor one over the course of the evening.

This is the set of matches where Wales are the only Home Nations side on show but we have the former world champions France and Italy headlining the action so there is a lot to enjoy over the duration of the night.

League A

There is only the one group on show in League A on Monday night and that is Group 2 where Italy surprised many with the start that they made as they went to France and won on Friday. The Azzuri are on their travels again on Monday to take on Israel, who were well beaten by Belgium in their opening game. The pick of the matches though sees France playing host to Belgium in a repeat of a match from Euro 2024 which France edged. After losing to Italy in their opening game France need to replicate their win over Belgium but the Belgians already have three points to their name and can pull away from the French with a win here.

League B

We have two groups on show in League B on Monday with Group 3 being one of them. Norway had a disappointing draw away to Kazakhstan in their opening game so they will be hoping for better fortunes when they host Austria. Slovenia picked up a point in their first game of the campaign and they’ll be hoping for more when they host Kazakhstan. Group 4 is the other group on show and this is the one where Wales will be looking to build on their draw with Turkey on Friday night when they travel to Montenegro. Turkey are at home in the other game against the early pacesetters Iceland.

League C

The remainder of the action on Monday night comes from League C where another group gets the second game of their schedule played out. Cyprus host the early kick off in Group 2 when they look to build on a rare win in their opening game. They play host to Kosovo while in the match a confident looking Romania will look to build on a really impressive first win on Friday night when they are at home to a Lithuania side who look something of a mess right now.

Betting

Two bets catch my eye on Monday night with the first of them coming in League B where I like over 2.5 goals in the match between Norway and Austria. We saw at the Euros that it doesn’t take a whole lot for Austria matches to ignite and with Erling Haaland on the opposition this one should burn into life quite nicely. Norway have flattered to deceive for far too long now and it is about time that they put in a performance in front of their home fans. To be fair to them, they had 19 shots in Kazakhstan so you have to think that a repeat performance here would see them find the net. With both matches in this group being drawn on Friday both will want to get on the board with a win here so I think the potential for more than 2.5 goals is high, especially with the attacking talent on show in this one.

The other bet that I like is for Romania to do a bit of a job on Lithuania. I’m very surprised that Romania are only being asked to cover a -1.5 Asian line when you consider that they look to be in a very good place right now and Lithuania have just lost at home to Cyprus. Lithuania have only won four matches dating back to March 2022 and two of those were 1-0 wins over Gibraltar which doesn’t exactly jump out as convincing results. Romania had a very good Euros where they made the knockout stages after a qualifying campaign where they went unbeaten. They got off to a winning start in Kosovo on Friday night with a very impressive 3-0 win and they should be a couple of goals too good for Lithuania here.
