The third round of the UK Championship comes to an end on Tuesday when the final eight matches are played out at the Barbican Centre in York.
Monday saw a couple of shocks take place as the world champion Stuart Bingham bit the dust while Michael Holt was also a surprise loser but John Higgins and Mark Selby made their way into the last 16.
Mark Allen, Shaun Murphy, Judd Trump and Neil Robertson are among the big names looking to join that duo in the next round when they play on Tuesday. The latter three are comfortable favourites in their matches against Ben Woollaston, Liang Wenbo and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh respectively but you can make cases for all three to be upset.
Mark Allen takes on Martin Gould in one of the matches of the day in the afternoon session but given that I’m on the Northern Irishman outright and having seen how the draw has suddenly opened up for him I’m in no rush to get involved in him here.
Stephen Maguire is also in action in the afternoon session and I’m on him outright as well so I won’t get involved in his match with Mark Davis although I do expect that one to be tight and wouldn’t put anyone off the overs there.
There are two overs bets in frames that I like on Tuesday. The first sees Kyren Wilson taking on Tom Ford. Both men have showed good form this week and indeed over the season so far. Wilson has won the Shanghai Masters while Ford made a European Tour final earlier in the campaign.
Both men are scoring quite nicely at the minute and while Ford’s scoring is probably slightly more powerful, Wilson’s tactical game is probably slightly better so this is a good match up and one I think can go 10 frames if not more.
The other one I like is for Dave Gilbert and Marco Fu to go over 9.5 frames in their match. They have met over this distance in the last two International Championships with both winning one 6-5 so that suggests this is going to be tight and with the form both men are in right now I expect the pair to be involved in another exciting match which could go deep.
