It is quarter final day at the WDF World Darts Championship on Friday and we are set for a fantastic day of darts across the two singles draws as we confirm the semi-final line up inside the iconic Lakeside Country Club.
This tournament has really caught fire over the last couple of days and everyone who remains has put in at least one decent performance so we have plenty to look forward to over the course of a day where the format has gone up to the best of seven for the men.
Afternoon Session
We begin in the women’s draw where our outright bet Kirsty Hutchinson will look to be the first person through to the semi-finals when she takes on Priscilla Steenbergen who will be hoping to take the form of her second round win onto stage with her. When they are done we will get the first men’s quarter final onto the stage as two of the elder statesmen in the event clash when Jim McEwan takes on Neil Duff in what looks like a real close contest.
The impressive Rhian O’Sullivan will then look to continue the excellent form she has shown this week when she goes up against Maria O’Brien, who wasn’t at her best in her first match but is likely to improve now she has had a match on the stage. The afternoon concludes with the number two seed Thibault Tricole taking on the Belgian star Andy Baetens in what could well be the pick of the quarter final matches.

Evening Session
The women get us underway in a proper good looking evening session. We begin with arguably the most impressive lady at the tournament so far in Tori Kewish. She battles former finalist Lorraine Winstanley for a place in the last four. When they are done another potentially fantastic men’s quarter final takes place when the number one seed Brian Raman takes on the man who shattered all records in the previous round in Richard Veenstra.
We then have the pick of the women’s quarter finals as the lady who took the defending champion Mikuru Suzuki out on Thursday night looks to make progress when Aileen de Graaf takes on the talented tournament favourite Beau Greaves for a spot in the last four. The final match of what really should be a wonderful day of action sees Cameron Menzies up against the WDF number one and England captain James Hurrell in another match which has classic written all over it.
Betting
There are a couple of bets that tempt me over the course of Friday but there is only one which I’ll commit to and that comes in the evening session where Brian Raman might be being written off a little too quickly. Admittedly Richard Veenstra was awesome in the previous round against Luke Littler but if these players performed like that consistently then they wouldn’t be playing in this code so while the Dutchman has to be respected I don’t think he is automatically going to win this match.
I say that for a couple of reasons, the first being that Raman has more about him at this stage in his career than Littler and I think he’ll relish the fight. The fact Raman has played on the same day as Veenstra so far has meant that his opening nine dart average of well in excess of 100 has gone unnoticed but he has done that in both of his matches. Raman has a PDC tour card now and clearly looks confident for it. He has wins over the likes of Brendan Dolan, Ian White and Jose de Sousa this season. That 104.91 average from Veenstra was incredible in the previous round but Raman averaged 97.47 in an equally impressive win over a top class opponent. I think he’s bring written off a little too soon and is worth a bet here.
