After a match which was impacted by the rain on Saturday, West Indies and Bangladesh will hope for better weather when they meet in the second T20 international in Dominica on Sunday afternoon as both continue to prepare for the T20 World Cup in a few months.
Bangladesh laboured in the action we were able to see in the opening game so they will be out to offer more here. West Indies look to show that they can still be a force in this format of the game even allowing for the transition phase that they are going through.
West Indies
Whenever a T20 match, series or competition comes around there is always plenty of pressure on a West Indies side. One of the reasons for that is over the last decade they have been so successful in the format but also because the manner of T20 is ideally suited to the style and the way they like to play their cricket. There is a DNA of entertainment within any Caribbean cricketer and they get the licence to do exactly that in this format.
If they are going to remain relevant in this format without the established star names who have carried them so well over the last 10-15 years then their bowling has to be on point so it is very much to their credit that they bowled tightly on Saturday. They were helped by the rain continually coming and stopping the batters from getting any rhythm but they still had to put the ball in the right places and they did that. If they can build on that they’ll be in a good place.
Bangladesh
This is the format of the two white ball ones where Bangladesh tend to struggle the most and I think it was apparent why on Saturday. They don’t have the greatest depth with the bat but worse still they don’t have many power hitters who can stand there and smack the ball over the ropes. As T20 continues to evolve Bangladesh are going to need to find power batters in order to be relevant at this level of competition.
If they can do that then their next issue will be finding enough bowlers who can compete in all conditions. They have one or two who can mix it but they tend to be the ones who have competed in all the big leagues around the world. We didn’t get to see Bangladesh with the ball in the opening match so we can’t really judge them on that but history would tell us that they struggle to maintain pressure in the middle overs and they need that to be competitive.

Team News
You would imagine that West Indies will want to see their batters in action before they make any judgements on them so it would be a surprise if they make any changes to their side unless someone hasn’t pulled up too well from Saturday.
Bangladesh had a batting unit that looked a batter light but whether there is anything they can do about that given the shortage of options in their squad remains to be seen. If there is then we should expect them to play another batter.
Betting
The pitch played as I thought it would do in the opening game and 13 overs of cricket on it isn’t going to change anything so the main bet I’ll take for this second match is the same one as I took on Saturday. That is the sixes where the line is actually one lower at 11.5. A Bangladesh innings that never really got going on Saturday because of the constant stoppages saw Bangladesh hit four sixes in 13 overs so even if they repeat that and add another in the other seven here we should get this line covered. It is the kind of line that West Indies can cover on their own so I like the over there.
I’ll also take a chance that Nurul Hasan top scores for Bangladesh. He smoked 25 in the opening game and looked to be hitting the ball firmly in the middle of the bat, which isn’t something you could say about too many of the Bangladesh batters in that opening game. If you take Shakib out then there is only really Mahmudullah and maybe Litton Das who are experienced in this format of the game so if Shakib fails the top score could come down the order. Nurul make 64 and 60* in the Test matches so he’s in good nick and is a huge price at 25/1.
