World Championship Snooker 2025 Qualifying – Day 6 Tips and Betting Preview

The qualifying competition for the World Championship is beginning to heat up and the third round of the event gets underway on Saturday as the leading ranked players in the tournament make their way onto the baize to begin their quest for a place at the Crucible Theatre.

The third round gets going in the morning with those matches finishing at night and in the middle of that the eight remaining second round matches which got underway on Friday afternoon conclude with the final eight spots in round three being filled.

Morning Session

As ever we have four matches on the streamed tables with the main one having the highest ranked player in the qualifying competition getting his campaign underway when Gary Wilson goes up against Hammad Miah. It has been a wretched season for Wilson so that has banana skin written all over it. The other three streamed tables will see Jack Lisowski meeting the in form Zak Surety in a really intriguing match while Yuan Sijun takes on Joe Perry in what will be the final match of the career of the latter should he lose it. Dave Gilbert takes on Gong Chenzhi in the other one.

We have an all-Welsh clash on one of the outside tables as Dominic Dale gets the final tournament of his career underway when he takes on his fellow Welsh player Daniel Wells. Anthony McGill is a former semi-finalist at the Crucible and he gets his quest to get back there underway when he meets Aaron Hill. Zhou Yuelong is another player starting his campaign. He meets Ishpreet Singh Chadha while in the other match Ricky Walden will start another World Championship tilt when he takes on one of the lower ranked players left in the field in Mitchell Mann.

Afternoon Session

Four more matches will be on the live streams on Saturday afternoon and on the main table the action might not last long because David Lilley holds an 8-1 lead over Ken Doherty when they resume. Matthew Stevens will be on another of the streamed tables and he will resume 6-2 up on the amateur Simon Blackwell. He Guoqiang is another who will come back leading 6-3. Liam Highfield is the man looking to turn that one around while there could be a shock in the other streamed match as Gao Yang leads his countryman Tian Pengfei 5-4 when they come back.

Two matches might not have much mileage left in them on the outside tables as Duane Jones will come back with an 8-1 lead over Ma Hailong in what would be a shock result as far as the rankings are concerned. Jiang Jun looks like being one of the seeded players in this round who will make it through. He has a 6-3 advantage over Andrew Higginson while Ian Burns will look to complete victory from an 8-1 lead against Alfie Burden.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that I fancy over the course of the day largely because the afternoon games look like the leaders will be the winners and that is reflected in the prices. There is one that I like at the prices in the morning though and that comes in the match between Jack Lisowski and Zak Surety where the outsider looks to be getting a big start on the handicap and based on the fact that we can get that at odds against that certainly appeals to me.

The line is 3.5 frames so we are looking for Surety to get to seven frames in this one and with all of the pressure on Lisowski that feels like it has every chance of happening. Surety arrived in this tournament off the back of a run to the semi-final of the World Open where he led the eventual winner John Higgins 5-3 before he lost 6-5 but he took care of the likes of Jordan Brown and Tom Ford in that tournament. Surety had two centuries, a 98 and a bunch of other decent breaks in beating Antoni Kowalski 10-2 in the previous round and in a match he knows he’ll get chances I’ll back Surety to take seven of them if not all 10.

Tips

Back Z.Surety (+3.5 frames) to beat J.Lisowski for a 3/10 stake at 2.15 with Coral
