World Cup 2018 – France vs Peru Betting Preview

The second match of the eighth day of World Cup action on Thursday has all the makings of being a very entertaining game of football as France take on Peru in another big match in Group C in Yekaterinburg.

France won their opening match of the tournament so the pressure is off them a little here unlike Peru who know that having lost their first game of the competition, if they lose this one their return to the World Cup will be short lived.

France

I think in order to be kind to the French we can call their victory in their first match a laboured one. They were facing what is on paper the weakest side in the group with all the firepower anyone could want at their disposal but at no real point were you certain they were going to win the match. That’s pretty poor for such a talented side.

We saw shades of this in Euro2016 too when we credited it to being down to the weight of home expectation but that excuse doesn’t carry this far. They might need a focal point of the attack to bring it all together but when you have the class and quantity of great players they have getting them into a system is not easy, as Didier Deschamps may be finding out.

Peru

It was an emotional afternoon for Peru on Saturday when they made their return to the World Cup some 32 years after they were last in it but it was a disappointing return as they succumbed to a game if a little uninteresting Denmark side. The Peruvians certainly have nothing to be disappointed about in their performance though.

Peru were actually one of the best looking sides in the opening round of matches but no matter what they tried the ball just would not go into the net. If they can find that final third composure, and they certainly have it in them to do that, then they are equipped to give France a scare here. I just hope they go out and take it to France and don’t be shy.

Team News

France did win their opening match so there is a chance they could be unchanged but they looked much better with Olivier Giroud on the field. He came on for Antoine Griezmann but you wouldn’t think the Atletico Madrid man would not start so Deschamps has a headache there.

Peru left their captain Paolo Guerrero on the bench to begin with against the Danes. That was a mistake and one I don’t expect them to repeat here. I expect him to feature right from the start in such a huge game.

Betting

I’m looking forward to this match as there is the potential for a lot of penalty box action here. Every time I’ve watched Peru they have taken the game to their opposition and I don’t see that changing here. I hope it doesn’t anyway. France have such quality in attacking areas that they could be a real threat on the attack.

This one to me is lined up for goals, especially given the situation Peru are in. If Peru show some composure in front of goal I’m convinced they’ll create chances but they’ll have to ride their luck on the break you would think. However they go in and where, I expect over 2.5 goals to land here.
