The last round of World Cup Qualifiers of the season begin on Friday night when three groups play their next match in the quest to qualify for the big event in Russia next summer. That means we have the likes of Spain, Italy, Croatia, Wales and the Republic of Ireland all in action on a bumper night of football.
Group D
There is an early game in this group which sees Georgia taking on Serbia while the other two matches which follow that involve Austria playing Moldova and the Republic of Ireland hosting Wales in Dublin in what is the pick of the evening for the home nations.
Group G
The pick of the matches in this group sees Italy hosting fellow Euro 2016 finalists Albania while Spain take on Israel looking to keep Italy at bay if at all possible. The other match in the group sees the two weakest sides going against each other when Liechtenstein host Macedonia.
Group I
There is another early kick off in this group too with Turkey hosting Finland in what is a big match for the home side. Croatia play Ukraine in the pick of the matches in this group with the winners taking a giant step towards Russia. Kosovo host Iceland in the other match.
Betting
Unlike some rounds of qualifying we’ve not got a whole lot of form to go by this weekend so I won’t be having many bets. There is one I like in Friday’s matches though and it comes in the big game in Zagreb.
Croatia are a side I really like. I like the way they play their football and I like the players they utilise but they have it tricky against a Ukraine side who could just be perfectly suited by Croatia’s style. Ukraine like to sit and soak up play and hit on the break while Croatia like to play on the front foot, attack and entertain.
I think this could be a really good match to watch and I fancy both sides to find the back of the net in it too. For all of Croatia’s talents going forward they are ordinary at the back while Ukraine can be exposed too. Both to score seems logical to me here.
