Wuhan Open Snooker 2024 Qualifying – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the middle day of the qualifying competition for the Wuhan Open on Monday when another bunch of players take to the baize inside the Mattioli Arena in Leicester looking for the win they need to book the plane to China.

We saw some good snooker on the opening day with the majority of the fancied runners coming through and one or two surprises along the way and more of the same is expected across the three sessions of Monday.

Morning Session

Ali Carter is the standout attraction in the morning session on Monday. He’ll be keen to get the better of Wang Yuchen when they meet because ‘The Captain’ missed out on a spot in the Xi’an Grand Prix last week. Stuart Bingham is the next highest ranked player on show as he faces Xing Zihao while another Chinese player, Pang Junxu, looks to qualify for a home event at the expense of Bulcsu Revesz. David Grace is also on show in the morning when he faces Ishpreet Singh Chadha while Wu Yize takes on Rory Thor, Tian Pengfei meets Andrew Higginson and Iulian Boiko goes up against Manasawin Phetmalaikul.

Afternoon Session

Tom Ford is the highest ranked player on show in the afternoon session as he looks to book his spot in Wuhan. Sunny Akani is the man who is standing in his way. Hossein Vafaei is another high ranked player looking to make it through and he has a clash with Ahmed Aly Elsayed to overcome. Graeme Dott is also taking to the baize in this session and he faces the Belgian youngster Julien Leclercq while Scott Donaldson meets Zak Surety. Joe Perry will look to qualify for the main draw when he faces Stuart Carrington with the other two matches seeing Matthew Selt meeting Liam Pullen and Ryan Day going up against Liu Hongyu.

Evening Session

The former world champion Luca Brecel headlines the evening session on Monday when he looks to make it through to the main draw when he takes on Duane Jones. David Lilley had a good win in the Xi’an Grand Prix qualifying last week and he’ll be looking to double up when he faces Mohammed Mustafa Shehab while Joe O’Connor takes on Hammad Miah. Noppon Saengkham is on show in this session and he’ll face Daniel Wells while Anthony Hamilton looks to make it through at the expense of Reanne Evans. Elliot Slessor is another on show and he plays Artemijs Zizins while Ben Woollaston faces Oliver Lines in the other game.

Betting

Daniel Wells had an excellent win over Ali Carter to make it through to the Xi’an Grand Prix last week and that will take some of the pressure off when he goes up against Noppon Saengkham on Monday evening. The Welsh player is much better than his ranking would suggest so while his win over Carter was an upset, especially with the way that the Captain has begun the season, it wasn’t a huge shock and it won’t be a massive shock if Wells wins here either.

Saengkham beat Andrew Pagett in the Xi’an Grand Prix qualifying but he only won 5-3 with a highest break of 53 so he looks to still be shaking off the rust having not competed in the Championship League. He takes on a better opponent here who might be under a little less pressure knowing that he is going to be earning in Xi’an next month and at odds against I think the sharper Wells can get the better of the Thai player in this one.
