2017-18 Premier League – Brighton vs Man Utd Betting Preview

The penultimate weekend in the Premier League campaign begins with the Friday Night Football which this time comes from the Amex Stadium as Brighton and Hove Albion host Manchester United.

A win here will all but guarantee second place in the table for Jose Mourinho and his men but much more is at stake for Brighton who are just five points above the drop and with two very tough matches to come.

Brighton and Hove Albion

So far it has been a decent first season in the Premier League for the Seagulls but they just need to make sure that they finish it off well as on 37pts they are not completely safe yet even though it would remain unlikely that such a points haul will end up in the bottom three. This is their final home match of the season and trips to Man City and Liverpool to finish won’t be easy.

Brighton have only lost four matches at home this season and the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal have both been to the Amex and failed to win so Chris Hughton’s side are entitled to believe they can be competitive in this match at the very least. Having been to Old Trafford and lost twice this term they’ll be hoping it is third time lucky for them.

Manchester United

Apart from that blip at home to West Brom last month, Manchester United have been in decent form. Their record on their travels in recent times has been particularly good. They have been picking up wins and scoring goals and generally looking quite entertaining and there is no reason for that not to continue here.

United don’t really have a lot to play for here but that might not be the worst thing in the world. There is a stigma that they have become a boring side to watch and here is a chance for their creative players to express themselves and show what they can do which should make for an interesting encounter.

Team News

Davy Propper returns for the home side after he has completed his three-match suspension for a red card last month. That leaves Steve Sidwell as the only absentee for the Seagulls.

Romelu Lukaku picked up an injury against Arsenal last weekend and that is going to keep him out of this match so Marcus Rashford could start through the middle. Phil Jones is expected to be fit while Jose Mourinho confirmed Eric Bailly is available for selection.

While only four sides have been to the Amex and won this season they were Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester and Manchester City and all four have dynamic and creative attacking front lines so it might not be the worst thing in the world for Manchester United that Romelu Lukaku is not fit for this one.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard can use their pace and skill to move an aging Brighton back line around and set up the openings to earn their side the victory. Generally in these big matches against the best sides Brighton have been found wanting a little and I expect that to be the case here. I’m with United in this one.
