The remainder of this midweek round of fixtures in the Premier League take place on Wednesday night and we have the two title challengers as well as a decent supporting cast in action to warm us up on a winter night.
Issues at the top and the bottom will be in the spotlight up and down the country as seven matches take place. One of them is live for those of us in the UK and then the usual methods exist for updates elsewhere.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows (20.00 unless stated)
Newcastle v Everton (19.45)
Southampton v Leicester (19.45)
Swansea v Man City (19.45)
Liverpool v West Brom
Man Utd v Bournemouth
Tottenham v Brighton
West Ham v Arsenal
Big Matches
The live game for those of us in the UK is the London derby between West Ham and Arsenal with both needing the points for very different reasons. West Ham need them to escape trouble, Arsenal want them to get back into the top four. Leaders Manchester City head to a Swansea side who are now bottom of the table after Crystal Palace’s win on Tuesday evening.
Other Matches
Elsewhere Sam Allardyce takes his Everton side back to one of his former clubs when they go to Newcastle while Claude Puel is back at Southampton for the first time when Saints host Leicester. Man Utd will be looking to put Sunday’s disappointment behind them when they host Bournemouth while Liverpool welcome West Brom to Anfield. Tottenham host Brighton at Wembley in the other match.

Betting
In the live game I like over 2.75 goals. Whenever these two line up against each other there are goals and while West Ham had a great result on Saturday they put a lot of effort into that match and you wonder what they will have in their tanks for this one. They will need plenty because I get the feeling Arsenal want to go ballistic on someone and an injury ravaged West Ham could be the side. That said you never truly get the feeling that Arsenal can contain West Ham’s style so I expect the goals to flow at the London Stadium.
One place I’m not sure the goals will flow is St James’ Park but any goals that are scored could well be shared more in the favour of Everton. They took a lot of stick for their tactics in the Merseyside derby but Big Sam will have lost zero milliseconds of sleep over that. Nevertheless I expect them to be more attacking against a poor Newcastle side. Allardyce has immediately tightened up Everton’s defence and with the pace and quality they have going the other way I think they’ll have enough to edge out a seriously struggling home side.
You only had to watch Jurgen Klopp’s interview on Sky after the Merseyside derby to know how cheesed off he was with the Merseyside derby at the weekend and I fancy that will be bad news for West Brom. I expect Liverpool to let off a lot of steam at Anfield on Wednesday night and with a number of experienced players out for West Brom they have a really tough night ahead of them. Pardew can’t set teams up to contain sides like Liverpool. I don’t think he’ll necessarily have a go here but I don’t think Liverpool will be breaking down the same West Brom wall they’ve gone up against in the past. With Coutinho, Mane, Sturridge and Firmino chomping at the bit I fancy the hosts to bang in three or more.
