2017-18 Premier League – West Ham vs Huddersfield Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend concludes with the second Monday Night Football of the season and for one of the sides involved matches do not get much more important even this early into the campaign.

That side is West Ham United. They host Huddersfield Town in their first home match of the season in desperate need of a victory after a horrendous beginning to proceedings while the Terriers head to the capital with the chance to go into the top three with a win.

West Ham United

It is hard to see how the first month of the season could have been much worse for the Hammers. They need to put that behind them but with all the attention on them that won’t be easy. One thing is for sure the international break came at the right time as it will have given them a couple of weeks to take stock and work out what is going wrong.

It might be that they don’t need to do too much tinkering. It could be that their poor start to the season is down to their lengthy injury list and the fact that they have not been able to play a home match yet. With some key players returning for this match they will hope to be more solid especially at the back which would be a good start.

Huddersfield Town

If West Ham have had a bad start to the season it has been anything but that for Huddersfield Town. They must think they are in dream world with their beginning to the season. They are undefeated in their three matches and are yet to concede a goal in the top flight. That is some effort for a side in their debut term in the Premier League.

Huddersfield signed quite a few players in the close season but it hasn’t taken them long to bed in which will be encouraging for David Wagner and his staff. Things will get much more difficult at some point for the newly promoted side but full credit to them for what they have achieved so far. They should be full of confidence heading into this one.

Team News

West Ham could well have Andy Carroll back for this match. Winston Reid is back from injury but they remain without the suspended Marko Arnautovic and the injured Andre Ayew, Manuel Lanzini and Edimilson Fernandes.

Huddersfield could have their new signings Florent Hadergjonaj and Adbelhamid Sabiri available for their debuts although they may not decide to make any changes after a positive start to the season.

Betting

I will be interested to see how West Ham go about this match. If they forget what has gone and approach this as a new start there is no reason why they can’t compete and have a go here and if they play to their potential they should have every chance of winning.

I’m not going to risk that until we have seen it but I do like the idea of both sides scoring. I think West Ham will have more about them going forward with Carroll partnering Javier Hernandez and they can cause the Huddersfield defence some problems but Huddersfield should fancy their chances against a very wayward and leaky West Ham backline so both to score is my advice here.
