2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Saturday 9th December Matches Betting Preview

League 2 returns from a week off for the FA Cup and it does so with the biggest game of the season so far as the top two in the division meet on another bumper day of action in the basement division.

Matches are coming thick and fast for all involved at this stage of the campaign so everyone will be eager to gear up for the festive flourish with a win so expect some competitive football in the freezing conditions.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Swindon Town

Cheltenham Town v Crewe Alexandra

Chesterfield v Barnet

Colchester United v Exeter City

Crawley Town v Mansfield Town

Grimsby Town v Forest Green Rovers

Luton Town v Notts County

Morecambe v Coventry City

Newport County v Carlisle United

Port Vale v Cambridge United

Stevenage v Wycombe Wanderers

Yeovil Town v Lincoln City

Big Matches

There is no doubt which the big match of the day is in this division. It comes from Kenilworth Road where free scoring Luton take on the only side who have kept up with them on points this season in Notts County. Another juicy game takes place at the Wham Stadium when third placed Accrington host eighth placed Swindon. As well as the top two meeting on Saturday the bottom two do as well when Chesterfield entertain Barnet.

Best of the Rest

The four sides currently in the play-off places face tricky road tests. Exeter in fourth head to Colchester while Wycombe in fifth make the short journey to Stevenage. Mansfield have found their form and head to Crawley while Coventry head up the M6 to take on Morecambe at the Globe Arena. Newport and Carlisle are both going well and they collide at Rodney Parade.

Betting

I lost all my form in this division prior to the FA Cup break so with so many matches coming up over the next three weeks I’m going to ease myself back in with a couple of bets for Saturday.

The first is in the big clash at Kenilworth Road where I’m expecting to see goals. Luton are dealing in insane numbers of goals at the minute and three sides have already gone for seven at Kenilworth Road while Carlisle, Colchester and Newport both shipped three. Notts County are no strangers to the back of the net either and already on the road this season they have bagged four at Wycombe and three at Exeter. Kevin Nolan suggests his side will take it to Luton which as a paying spectator I hope is true. If it is that will play right into Luton’s hands which should see the goals flowing once again.

Chesterfield have found their mojo under Jack Lester and I think they can pick up the win which may well see them out of the bottom two. They will certainly overtake their opponents Barnet if they can win the match and given the form of the two sides I think that is likely. Chesterfield have only lost one of their last seven matches which was against a Cambridge side going well at the time while Barnet have one win in 14. This looks like a home win to me.
