Two sides who have become accustomed to winning major trophies will meet in the final of the Confederations Cup on Sunday evening when Chile take on Germany in Saint Petersburg.
This will be the second time these two nations have met in this tournament after they played their second group match against each other. They drew 1-1 on that occasion so we could be in for a tight final.
Chile
If there is a side who have shown they are not afraid to battle and win however possible in tournament football in recent times then it is very much this Chile side. They won the last two Copa America titles on penalties after tight 0-0 draws and that is exactly how they made it into this final.
They went the distance against Portugal but the thing that caught the eye in that match was how intent they were on attacking and finding the goal which should have won them the tie before penalties. The other thing of note was how well they defended despite their lack of height and physicality.
Germany
I expected Germany to get better as this tournament went along and that is exactly what they have done. They were a little sketchy to begin with but when you think this squad of players will never have played together before we can afford to cut them a little slack and just take note of the improvement.
Germany are now looking like scoring regularly when they go forward and they no longer look all over the shop at the back and that is never a bad combination to have. We were reminded by their under-21 side that this is a nation who know exactly how to win tournaments no matter the size or prestige.

Team News
Chile have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this match so they could be unchanged from the semi-final win unless fatigue rules anyone who hasn’t been named out of the match.
Germany were rampant in their win over Mexico in the semi-final and there is not a whole lot they need to change so they could name the same starting XI too.

Betting
We’ve already seen one tight match between these two in this tournament and I certainly wouldn’t rule this one out following type. Chile know how to go the distance in these major finals and showed they can do just that against Portugal while Germany are renowned for going the distance. Even their World Cup final win was late in extra time.
This isn’t a match in which a huge amount jumps out at me so given that they have already drawn in the event the best way to play the match might be to have a point on each of them to win on penalties in case the stalemate isn’t lifted in two hours of play.
