The first round of the European Masters will draw to a close on the second day of the tournament out in Belgium on Tuesday. We’ve already seen some big names make their way into the next round and on Tuesday a whole lot more will try to do the same on a very busy day in Lommel.
This is the only day of the tournament that has three sessions of action so the tables will get plenty of use over the course of the day. All eyes will be on the likes of Luca Brecel, John Higgins, Judd Trump, Mark Williams and Mark Selby to see if they can progress.
Morning Session
Just the one set of matches take place in the morning session but that doesn’t mean we are without some leading names. Mark Williams and Stuart Bingham take to the tables in the morning and both are on the main ones. Williams plays Yan Bingtao in a really appealing match while Bingham goes up against Mitchell Mann. On the outside tables there is an all-Asian battle between Noppon Saengkham and Cao Yupeng and a clash between Alfie Burden and Eden Sharav.
Afternoon Session
John Higgins is the first on the TV table in the afternoon session while the streamed table will have Dave Gilbert in action. Higgins goes up against Alexander Ursenbacher while Sam Baird will be the opponent for Gilbert. On the outside tables there is a juicy looking clash between Mark Davis and Matthew Selt while the other table sees Chen Zhe facing Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.
The second set of matches will have Judd Trump on the main table when he plays the aggressive Adam Duffy. Anthony McGill faces Joe Swail on the streamed table while the other matches see Oliver Lines playing Zhou Yuelong with Michael Georgiou taking on John Astley too.
Evening Session
The home favourite Luca Brecel will once again grace the tables first up in the evening. Thor Chuan Leong will be his opponent while the streamed table will have our pre-tournament outright pick Mark Allen taking on Hossein Vafaei. The outside tables will see Graeme Dott playing the amateur Jamie Rhys Clarke with Mei Xiwen tackling Chris Wakelin on the other.
The final set of matches sees Mark Selby facing Zhao Xintong on the main table with the other table in focus seeing Ryan Day going up against Peter Lines. On the outside tables Jack Lisowski plays Li Yuan and Ian Preece will go up against Lu Haotian.

Betting
There are three bets that I like across the course of the day on Tuesday. They begin in the morning session where I fancy Cao Yupeng to continue his good form when he takes on Noppon Saengkham. Saengkham beat Yupeng in the Riga Masters but has hardly won a match since. Yupeng made the third round of the World Open, beating Stuart Bingham in the process and he scored brilliantly in his win over Chris Wakelin in International Championship qualifying last week and a repeat of that will get it done here.
Moving into the afternoon and I quite like Matthew Selt to beat Mark Davis. Davis generally has a solid game but he has had a couple of poor results recently which is a concern. Selt won his International Championship qualifier last week and pushed John Higgins all the way in the World Open. He is practicing with Judd Trump which can never be a bad thing and I expect him to have a decent run of results as a result of that. I expect Selt to win this.
In the evening session I like Jack Lisowski. He is ideally suited to this format. He is aggressive and attacks the table and most of his better results have come over this length of match. He now goes up against Li Yuan in a match I expect him to be too good in. Yuan may well be capable in time but he’s new to the scene and I expect Lisowski to show him that life on tour is not easy. I think he’ll win with a bit to spare.
