The first round of German Masters qualifying ends and the second round begins on another busy day of snooker action in Barnsley on Thursday as even more stellar names take to the tables and bid to take a step closer or qualify for the main event in Berlin.
Once again we have three more sessions of action with each match being over the best of nine frames. The winners of the evening session qualify for the event in Berlin in February.
Morning Session
Two matches stand out for the streamed tables in this session. Former world champion Stuart Bingham takes on Alfie Burden while on the other table Mark Allen goes up against Sean O’Sullivan.
The other first round matches sees John Astley taking on Jimmy Robertson, Stuart Carrington meets Ken Doherty, Jamie Cope plays Jak Jones and Aditya Mehta takes on Nigel Bond. Kritsanut Lertsattayatthorn plays Mark Joyce while Michael Wild looks to get over his UK Championship meltdown when he takes on Fang Xiongman.
Afternoon Session
Three top level players get their campaigns underway in the final session of the first round on Thursday. Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Mark Selby all get going in this session. Trump plays Paul Davison, Robertson has Lee Walker and Mark Selby plays Dechawat Poomjaeng.
The other matches in this session sees Adam Duffy facing Mei Xiwen, Tom Ford plays Duane Jones, Ross Muir goes up against Itaro Santos along with Ali Carter playing Wang Yuchen and Mark Williams going up against Fergal O’Brien.
Evening Session
This session sees the second round of qualifying begin with places in Berlin up for grabs. Ronnie O’Sullivan is back in action when he faces Gary Wilson while the other main table will be occupied by John Higgins and Zhao Xintong.
The outside tables see Liam Highfield meeting Michael White while Dominic Dale plays Alex Borg. Noppon Saengkham goes up against Stephen Maguire and the Northern Ireland champion Mark King plays Andrew Higginson. The other two matches see the defending champion Martin Gould playing Craig Steadman and Ricky Walden plays Robbie Williams.
Betting
Once again I’m being quite selective over another busy day of action. I’m taking two bets and they both come in the evening session where we’ve had a little bit of form to digest and hopefully that yields the results we desire.
Dominic Dale came through a barnstormer against Alan McManus in the first round but his reward for doing so is an easier looking match against Alex Borg in the second round. Borg is competent but rarely is he competitive and his first round win was only his second all season so he isn’t in great form. Dale is playing well at the minute and he should have far too much for the Maltese man there.
Liam Highfield is riding a high after making the last 16 last week and a fair few quid in the process. He takes on Michael White in what should be an entertaining match but it is certainly one Highfield is overpriced in. White is a worthy favourite but he is so inconsistent and with it unreliable at odds on so I think off the back of a fine run in York, Highfield is worth a go here given how well he’s scoring.
