As the rain came down, we got off the mark for Glorious Goodwood with a lovely 9/1 winner on Wednesday. The card on Day 3 presents very few betting opportunities and it’s more a day to take in the racing. Winter running in the Nassau is the likely highlight but we’ve gone with 1 bet in the opener.

1.50 1m2f Handicap
A big field and a very open race to start proceedings. There appear to be some that are over rated and may struggle either on the ground, over the trip and off their current mark so we’ve been looking for one that has nothing to fear on those fronts.
It leads us to Hold Sway from near the foot of the handicap. He didn’t run as a 2 year old but has been seen 5 times this term, and seems to be improving steadily. After running well on his debut, he ran a decent race to finish 3rd of 16 over this trip on rain softened ground before being turned over at odds on in a firm ground maiden where conditions probably didn’t suit.
Cheekpieces were then applied and he got off the mark at Newmarket when making all and staying on very well. There was give underfoot that day so conditions today will suit. On his first handicap start last time, he ran ok in 3rd but probably sat close to the pace and the stiff finish at Sandown might have taken its toll.
The cheekpieces stay on today, his prominent racing style will suit and his low draw is a big plus. Not only has he been given an 8 week break to freshen him up, he’s been gelded since his last run and, provided the ground stays on the easy side, he should prove difficult to keep out of the frame.
